Question about the DS3/DS4

The memory issue for these boards is well known and I read somewhere that it was due to the voltages that the memory required. If I were to set the voltages from the default 1.8V to a higher 1.9-2.0V (enough for some G. Skill NR PC2-6400 RAM) would this solve the problem, or is it a deeper rooted problem? I assume I would also need to set the timings to CL5 at the same time. Thanks in advance.

you need a stick of cheap ddr2 ram that will boot up at 1.8v, then go into the bios, change the vdimm to 2.2v and then power down, and then put your g.skill back in and it should boot fine then. Hopefully they can sort this out with a bios update. if not, there is going to be a lot of rmas.

Thanks for the reply. Another question, do the F2 full release BIOS fix the issue with the RAM or is it only the F3B BIOS that fix this?

not even the f4c bios fixes this yet.

I thought that the new DS4 beta bios was supposed to fix this. I may just get the extra RAM anyway and then see. Some people have managed to boot up wiht only 1 stick of RAM in so that might work.

i grabbed a cheapo stick of ddr from scan and it works perfectly for booting up.

edit: scrap that, its gone into neverending restart mode, well buggered!
