    Not sure what was up with your 7800GT, but mine was barely ever warm to the touch, Even overclocked. My 7950GT and it's chunky overclock lives happily at 40c and 55under load with the zalman fan at 5v.
    I think his point is, that even if the X1800,X1900 are really hot on the card.. the temps never really affect the case as all of it is being pumped out. You get the same effect as the Silencer series coolers..

    The 7800GT on the contrary, even if its magnitudes cooler than the recent ATI cards.. the air is dumped straight into the case and not out. So the overall temps gets hotter overall.

    I agree with him as when I swapped to an ATi accelero, HDD temps just shot up 2C while the system temps shot up 3C compared to when I'm using the stock ATI cooler.

    And actually its not loud at all during idle, only when it cranks up during gaming its loud. But even then you'd barely hear it over the speakers really. And I've heard how bad a 7800GT (because I have one) sounds during idle, its not pleasent at all, although its marginally quieter than the X1800 coolers during load..

    I got the Accelero just based on its performance. Now my card idles 42C and loads at 60ish.. compared to 60C idle and 85C load..

    There are rumours it will take 175 Watts of power in which case the cooling would need to be rather impressive.

    About the watercooling, the GTX model has two hosepipe connectors, which I think implies it needs H2O to cool it.

    Most heatpipes candle 40-50watts of heat. So 4(7900GTX style) would easily keep these under control.

    i think ati and nvidia need to take intels route adn look at performance-per-watt

    because the power and heat requirements are geting silly

    The problem isn't design, its the problem of pushing your products that bit faster to overtake your competitor.

    It is isn't it? Well, not as sound bus as light. The energy is transferred as an electrical signal which travels up the cable to the monitor which lights up and disperses the energy as light.

    I don't think a graphics card would do anything if it was fed 175W of energy and passed it all out as heat. Well, it would be a heater...

    Actrually almost all of the power used is used every clock cycle when the transistors flip. This is why much less power is used in idle (not switching). If you sent a 75W signal through a cable the monitor that would be very bad for the monitor and cable. In fact digital transmission sinks very little current, mostly just creates a potential (voltage) creating an electric field which causes other transistors to switch.
