Well I have my GEIL Ultra stuff running on 2.1v @ 4-4-4-12, at >800MHz - but it seemed to suddenly work on these settings, having initially not wanted to play ball ! When my system is running at 3.2GHz (356x9), the RAM is at 890MHz and I give it 2.2v to assist stability, but for 24/7 use I have now scaled back to 3GHz (333*9) and the RAM sits on 2.1v @ 833MHZ @ 4-4-4-12 without issue

put the voltage at 2.2 that is the base standard for these RAM modules, unless you have done 24hr stress tests you can be unaware of any problems until the RAM finally gives way :S..

lol what motherboard have you got that won't allow more than 2.0v on the RAM LOL!

And with all fairness, memory speeds/timings are not going to make any difference to you if you don't know how to change them...
I disagree mate, there are people who will not necessarily know (or care) about the workings of PCs, they just want to buy expensive kit for their system and expect it to work. And why shouldn't they? When I bought my RAM it was £131 delivered from Overclockers, now they sell it for nearly £200. For £131 I expect it to work as DDR2-800 4-4-4-12, that's what I paid for, never mind at £200.

My GeIL ram had a (tiny) note in with them saying that the SPD was deliberately set low, so correct it in the BIOS, but it also said to put 2.1V in the BIOS too. Where did you get the 2.2V is the base standard for these? Is that specific to this GeIL modules or common for all DDR2-800 4-4-4-12?

And finally, what happens if the RAM gives out under 2.1V? Because my PC has had some random crashes lately, in the middle of a game (there's been a few) it just pauses for less than a second, then goes blank, then completely reboots and when it gets into Windows says "they has been a severe error" or something like that. Might the RAM be responsible for this? I've been wondering if my E6600 has shutdown because it's got too hot, although I can't think why it wouldn't throttle instead.

Sounds like a stability issue to me, which could either be the CPU or the RAM. 2.2V is standard across all DDR2 but I didn't see anywhere on the modules 2.1v cos even on the modules themselves it says how much voltage to give thme.

It says on the sticker 2.1v.

and dancingmatt I have the same stuff. Good deal eh?
I reckon if you have your RAM set to below 2.1v it could be that.
Sorry for any mistakes, in a rush to finish work!lol

Mine is set to 2.1V (even though the BIOS displays that in SCARY RED) - I might try the 2.2V, but I just don't understand why.

Ah I see. I think I misunderstood. Well you could try 2.2v, wont harm, but my guess is its probably not that. Not saying I know what it is tho .
You're right about cpu heat, it probably isn't that unless its overclocked(when heat can cause stability issues) or undervolted.
Voltages, temps and clocks are always a good place to start.

I was about to critisize you for not having your system specs up, then I noticed I don't have any either! What a bleedin' hypocrite ey?
I'm guessing you have an Asus board like me tho?

P5W DH Deluxe, E6600, P180b case, 7900GX2. Yeah, I must get around to doing my specs!

I'm going to start a new thread about this rebooting problem I've got though, cos I don't want to trample all over this one...

    !!!!

I thought i killed my shuttle with that BIOS update i was sent...

I applied the BIOS update that was beta version and then the PC restarted and then..... Nothing!

Just black screen with the CPU fan on max....

After my near heart attack i tried to restart some more and in the end tried the clear CMOS button on the back of the shuttle... and thank god it came back to life

The shuttle is now also running at 800MHz but i think it shows that the BIOS update is a beta version, as soon as I got into windows, it popped up this the dreaded Blue screen of Death

    Saying "IRQ_Not_Less_or_Equal" ..... Oh joy!

Restarted it again and it seems to be fine.... but am getting a bit lower benchmark scores in 3D mark 05 and 06 after BIOS update???

Will see how it goes, if i do have any problems i will just load the previous BIOS update and wait for the next fully tested BIOS update.

Good to know that the shuttle will run at 800MHz, but mite just wait for a fully tested and more stable BIOS update.

Thanks Again to all for all the Help

Sorry for hijacking the thread, got a question.

I got 2x512M Corsair DDR2-533 now running DDR2-742-5-5-10-5 1.95V. Anyone reckon I could push them up to 2.1V without doing any harm? (Will stick some ramsink on)
