Might be a silly question, but did you make sure the black pin was all the way up (turn the clip the direction of the arrow and pull up) before trying to get the white plastic clips back together again? Had a similar problem where one of the head bits got bent, but managed to get it all back into shape without too much effort once the black pin was all the way out again. If you do try and fit it, squeeze the head and push it through the mobo hole first before doing the other ones...

i've not used any of those red washers in *years*. The holes that have a metal rim round them are meant to be like that to give the board some grounding. Don't worry about.

Put screws in all the holes that line up with the little brass posts, any that don't line up, don't install the post. Also any holes that don't line up, i usually put one of the plastic stands in there. They often have an extra lug on the bottom for fitting in slots on some cases. Snip or slice them off if you don't have the slots in your case.

Yeah I tried that. I actually managed to get the white bits close together enough to fit in the holes again but I still couldn't manage to fit the heatsink. I just felt like I was using too much pressure to have to get it to fit on. I know it has to be quite alot of pressure to fit but this was getting crazy. It wasn't just pressing the corners to clip in, it was more like me putting all my body weight into it, and I was just worried I was going to break everything So I've just used the stock intel heatsink and fan now. I am going to finish it all off today and check that everything still works, and I'll look at the temps and stuff. If its all great I will consider maybe trying to fit the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro again.

I thought as much, needed to check though seeing as the washers where included with the screws and it didn't mention it in the manual or anything. I'm gunna finish fitting that now.

Thanks for confirming it for me

    Thanks everyone.

the arctic freezer is a bit tricky to fit, but with a little fiddling and reseating it goes in quite easily.. there is a bit of a nack. You have to give a little pressure, but if you're pressing down really hard and it's not clicking, chances are the black pins have rotated slightly and aren't fully open - turn each one all the way against the arrow before applying pressure down on the pin (one at a time, twist, push, twist push etc), they tend to move a bit while you fit the other ones, and make sure you are doing them in diagonal pairs.

Another question for you guys This is way more complicated than I expected.

I'm trying to fit the lead from the SATA-II0 drives (I've got two of them) to the motherboard. And I can't figure out where to do it and what lead to use etc..

My power supply came with a few leads with Serial ATA written on, but the connections on the motherboard look different. The motherboard manual says it has six SATA-II ports "Controlled by ICH7R" and then two GSATA-IIp "Controlled by Gigabyte SATA2".

But none of the ports on the motherboard look like they are anything at all like the lead... One bunch of ports are wierd little L shaped ports side by side making almost a square shape. And the two by themselves look like two rows of 5 pins.

The lead on the SATA cables that came with my PSU have the disk connector on one end which fits, but the other end is just 5 small holes.

Totally confused. Don't think I'm cut out for this

for each SATA device, you need 1 x data cable and 1 x power cable.

the L shaped ports on the motherboard are for the data cable.

can you do a pic of the 5 small holes on the end of the wire?

Arent there any SATA plugs on any of the wires on the psu?

I was being a spaz The PSU is modular, so I need to use those leads to go from the PSU to the power input on the hard drive itself.

Now I need to buy some data leads to go from the motherboard to the hard drives. I thought they would have been included but they arent

Ahh nevermind I got the cables. Thought they where USB leads Reckon I can fit that now.

Have yet another question though..... The power input on the motherboard for the 12v power (to power the CPU and motherboard etc) has a cover over part of it. The manual just says that extreme edition CPU's need it to be 2x4 pins and otherwise its 2x2 pins.... I've got an E6600 so which do I use? It doesn't tell me in the CPU guide or the motherboard manual :/

AFAIK, use the 8 pin if your PSU has a 8 pin cable, use the cover and the 4 pin if your PSU only has this, but as its a new PSU chances are that it has the 8 pin so use that...

    ITS WORKING!!!!!

It just goes to show.... this stuff is hard wearing! The cpu survived all my heavy prodding and stuff and my failed heatsink attempt.

I'm just installing windows now and then I'll do some checks on the temperatures and stuff. I'm amazed at how quiet it is too -those golf ball sharkoons are the business. I'll post all my specs later.

Thanks everyone anyway, you all helped me alot and it was good for moral support

I'll do windows now, then windows update and then all my drivers and stuff and hopefully I'll post later from it
