    LOMAC mission, 12/2/04

    Listen up pilots!

Georgian narcotics dealers are using the recent summer storms to sneak in plane loads of heroin under our noses. Luckily we've had a tip off that there will be flights making a run through our airspace.

Making a welcome appearance and assisting us is the USAF, who are kindly lending us 2 pilots to accompany us on the flight.

Since we are NOT at war the rules of engagement are clear. Any unidenfiable aircraft are to be intercepted quickly and inspected visually. No BVR engagement is allowed. Once the targets are identified you may engage. You may also engage if they attempt to evade you once a visual confirmation has been made.

We know they're using simple transport aircraft. Typically twin engined AN series aircraft. If you're not familiar with these aircraft check the encyclopia.

Come back in one piece please and show our American guests how we Russian fly!

I'm in, what are we flying?

I trust the targets will have "company" to keep us on our toes... No, actually - dont tell us we want a surprise! Much more fun

I'm not saying anything other that this:

A close inspection of your target is REQUIRED!

You will be able to fly either an F15 or an Su27. Choice is yours.

Oh, and again.. no labels will be allowed.

Gents may I suggest that you download LOMAN (Lock On Manager), and install the Low res clouds. This will help your FPS greatly in this mission. The beauty with LOMAN is that you can install and uninstall mods to Lock On at the click of a button - makes life a whole lot easier and doesn't mess up your install.

"No labels" means that you won't see a name and distance next to a plane/ground unit once you close within 30 miles or whatever. This means formation flying will be done the real way.. Note that we're flying in a thunderstorm, and it's ~23.00 hours. With no labels this makes for very dangerous conditions to be close to one another.

Since we are NOT at war there is also a lot of friendly air traffic about. This is why it's imperative that all targets are ID visually before opening fire. This will be somewhat difficult at night in a storm, but it is possible - this is what the smugglers are relying on, using the weather and time of day to sneak though. An escort flight is very unlikely due to the fact that they're smugglers and a fighter is going to draw way too much attention, not to mention wouldn't have the legs to accompany the flight all the way, especially with a combat load.

Breaking news gents, an earlier flight managed to get a picture of the aircraft the smugglers are using. He couldn't shoot it down at the time since it was over international waters, but he got the photo for us none the less:

This type of aircraft will be what we're looking for tonight. Bit of a needle in a haystack, but it can be done! Notice the engines in the middle of the wings. Difficult to make them out since the HUD lock symbology is in the way, but it's a very distinctive shape none the less.
