Not everyone gets the beta invite even if they do sign up, at the last one I signed up to play the beta but didn't get in, have got in this time around though. So not sure if its just certain players or open to all now

Looks like it is generally open to anyone who selects "WoW Classic" for their game type in the battle.net launcher and hits install and play. Only wanted a few gig of space, but I didn't get to play. Maybe tomorrow.
When I did it last it allowed me to click play and install but then when installed play was greyed out

Leroy Jeeeeenkins!!
To correct myself and a little late now it was open to all, level cap was 15 though I believe. For subscribers its open for name creation and that's it, 3 characters max for now until the official launch in a couple of weeks.

I would love to recreate my old Uni days but I know I'm just looking back with rose tinted glasses.
I'm unlikely to play myself but will be watching some videos of others playing.
Managed to get my old character names but only as a placeholder...
I would love to recreate my experience of playing vanilla WoW when I was in my Uni dorms but I know I'm looking back with rose tinted glasses.
It's funny how Vanilla WoW was seen as the easy MMO back in it's release...
Agree completely, I do have the latest expansion and I am max level but it goes on once or twice a month for 10 or 20 mins at a time, everything is so basic now, every single class has pretty much the same abilities now, ie everyone has a shield, everyone can aoe etc.
I can't wait for the classic release, having played it recently, no markers telling you where the objective is brings the game back to feeling like you are actually exploring and more importantly that you feel like you have achieved something. Just look at the onyxia or molten core attunements, long quest lines that paid off in the end.
There have been some improvements over the years I admit which makes things more easier etc but in the end I felt it got too easy.
My character I created was a hunter, saw ammo again for the first time in years and forgot that you need a minimum range to use a gun and was called by a level 3 wolf, good times I also missed where you would have to carefully work out who you were going to attack, a group of 3 mobs together was a definite no, you had to pick them off, in modern wow I would say you favour your chances running into a group of 10 or so.
It is a time consuming game the original wow but thats what I liked about it, sense of achievment etc.
I don't think I will go back to full time raiding, those days are probably behind me but I will certainly enjoy the journey to 60

Ahh, you're tempting me back now
I didn't even bother getting the last expansion, and didn't finish the one before. I think area scaling to your level just made everything a bit meh. Like the whole game was aimed just at people wanting to endgame raid (which I have never had the time for) and character levelling should be over as fast as possible. Crafting had become pointless, taking the auction house with it.
Again, absolutely agree, I remember in original WoW my first time getting to Lakeshire but needting to go back to Westfall for something and encountered Duskwood for the first time, I probably made it 20 seconds into Duskwood before running out and finding a safer way around because it was above my level. That's what made a good game I think, now as you say everything scales with you, takes away any suspense of what you might encounter imo.
Also everyone can now mine the same node! Or gather the same plant, gone are the days where you can see the hate in a players eyes as you got to that rich thorium vein first lol
There aren't many servers for classic WoW not sure if they are adding some later but both pvp servers are full as is one of the two pve servers. I expect they will have to add more.

It doesn't look like I am going to have the exact amount of money to play WOW Classic at launch and if I don't play it at launch I am unlikely to play it after that. Really, really want to be there when the servers crash and all the craziness is going on. Also wish I remembered the name of my first character and the realm he was on but can't come up with it thus far and well wanted to repeat doing what I did with that toon in the original WOW. Finally I never raided in the original WOW as I was afraid to after hearing it was only for leets and I wish I did not listen but at least I will have a shot this time of doing it ... maybe.
For anyone interested 13 hours to go until WoW Classic is available. Man did I pick the wrong day to move house!
