Deck gun saved the day, I just sailed around the convoy and emptied the deck gun into them, all ammo expended,
final tally 9 sunk for 53,000 tonnes
I'm now doing the channel dash home with a couple of torps left for any targets of opportunity :D
53k tonnes you cheat :D Thought my 2 battleships were good at 24k tonnes :D My career will move forward slowly though pity the sub I have in career has a total of 5 torps and no deck gun though it now has a flak cannon. Need to get me some more tonnage to get a larger sub
:DQuote:

Once you have 2500 renown (usually after 2/3 missions) then you can trade renown for a MK VIIB 4 torps front, 1 Stern and a decent deck gun (with Star Shells which are frankly awesome for lighting up targets at night)Quote:

Yes it does mate, I'm not sure if it is historically realistic, but check you have a full and awake(!) crew in the compartment, as well as an officer too. Reloading torps was a hell of a job involving a lot of winching and heaving, not to mention ensuring the whole torp was covered in a thick layer of lubricating greaseQuote:

'We spent the following night reloading the forward torpedo tubes. This operation was always a difficult one due to the cramped space in the torpedo rooms. The massive 21-inch diameter weapons had to be hoisted up from their tie-down racks and slid forward into the launching tubes. The procedure is easier when the bow is pointed downwards, at least for the forward tubes, so we trimmed the boat to allow gravity to accommodate the process. None of the off-duty crew slept much that night because they had to constantly hold on to their bunks, lest they slide off and land on the floor. The guys who slept in the forward torpedo room couldn't even lay down because their bunks had to be folded up out of the way to allow the torpedoes to be moved forward.'
Yup takes years to reload I was taking 11 minutes ffs :o I find putting yer watchofficer in there speeds it up a little though :D
3 Patrols in a row and not a single sighting :/
Does everyone else also find having enough fuel a problem? I rarely get to actually patrol the assigned grid much.. normally having to just stop and wait for a few hours so that I have enough to get home again :/
I do have enough reknown now for a lovely VIIB :D
HAve also got FULL crew, which I find helps enormously. :)
Was having a mess around with Single Missions in a VIIB to get used to torp loading times etc. Fired a Salvo of all 4 torps into the general direction of the 4 column, 5 deep convoy. Each torp got a ship each :D
use electric engines aswell flick between them and you'l be fine :D
BTW is you join the 7th rather than 1st you get the VIIB :D
I joined the 1st flotilla, but could afford my lubbly VIIB plus full crew just 3 missions in (sailed back to dock every mission, no sightings though)
I also got an Iron Cross for nothing...
The distances can be a pain when trying to preserve fuel, I prefer to tell navvy where to go then stick time compression up to 1024x and wait till I am near convoy routes or my deignated patrol area (if it is a gash area then I just set a default search pattern and whack time compression up)
I can't wait to get this, was hoping it would be with me today... but it isn't. :(
You guys are making it sound kewl though!
I reckon there will be a few medals going after this mission, I've just made it past Dover, it was a tight squeeze and only 25m deep at some points, I got a beautiful long range shot with a rear torp on a small merchant, I hit him at 3500m (after I was convinced I'd missed ) but only after closing to within 2500 and having to turn the boat around to position for a rear shot, impact was there but only enough to damage and not sink him, anyway we are through into the North Sea now and we are back on the hunt, 1 torp remaining fore and aft :)
Warning I was playing great mission bagged 2* c2 ships and a Destroyer off scarpa flow and as I set course back to base rather than just exit mission outlook decided to do an archiove and crashed the game. LIVID. A destoryer aswell it was coming at me full tilt and I slotted it one down the nose :D
