Apparently you don't need to go that far, but I like to just for the hell of it :)
Aye, but from 10km?! They only thing I can see of them is the smoke plume..Quote:

I press ESC and I get abandon mission, click yes and it says unsatisfactory. I have looked for dock crews and anything else along the right side (right from start position) but can see nothing at all, just land.
Do you only get dock crews etc if you take the exam or should there be something in specific that I should be heading towards as all I see in the distance is trees (using the attached binoculars to look about)
Anyone know a cheap place to get hold of a copy? Play are out...

:(
Just received my copy today from Play... Shame that! :(
Anyway, have been looking through the manual (probably the only one I've ever read) and boy am I confused! The amount of info you have to gather before firing a torp, and that's for each target? :o
At which difficulty level do you lot play? I suppose I'll start on the lowest to get used to the gameplay then try raising it a bit...
Ah, apologies, I thought you meant at the end of a patrol (mission)Quote:

Even still, the other mission I had that I describe earlier (that ended with a depth charge in my tower), it was a case of I popped up the periscope, no more than what would be a couple of inches above the surface, in the dead of night. Before I can even spot them with my own eyes, they have got their search lights trained on my position perfectly, with those ******** ******** speedy boats on their way.. from just over the horizon :(Quote:

Took out a T3 tanker with one aft torp direct hit on its engine room it went bang and down quick style. Used the target identifier and I was at 800 meters showed me areas on the ship to hit keel and all that so I choose engine room and BOOM was well chuffed.

Click on lock then if like me you are a peen and it auto names the ship type click on ship it opens the book at that ship and if yer in good enough firing poition it shows ares on ship you can aim at. pick one and fire :D
one torp did it for me. If that aint clear enough catch me on msn tomorrow.
I'm finally getting somewhere on it at last ! Done the first 3 Naval Academy training missions (Navigation, Deck Gunning and Flak Guns). Finally onto torpedos, aint it a git when they hit the target and it just goes dink and fails to go boom ! Two more training bits to get through and I will start the campaign, I'm starting to get addicted !
I love being able to click on the small pic in the corner and watch the torpedo going through the water, especially when it hits and detonates
nice to hear you're enjoying the learning experience mate. It is a bugger when your torps fail to detonate, even when you;ve done everything right, but don't be afraid to experient with different depth settings and fuses, hone those skills ;)Quote:

Yeah, will definately keep at it. I'm playing without reading the manual, just want to get into it, I have browsed the electronic manual it puts in the start menu but thats it, not much makes sense in it, worse than a vcr manual !
I only got an average score on the shooting down planes, damn they are hard to hit ! I did get Excellent on the first 2 though, using the exposive rounds on the merchant ships has a nice effect, when the ship goes up it breaks into bits and sinks, looks really cool.
My best hit with the torpedo so far on the traning was when it hit just ahead of the propellor on the back of the ship, had it on the fullscreen view, it shown a zoomed out shot of the ship just sitting there, no sight of me at all and no sight of the torp, then after about 40 secs it went back to following the torp and showed the connection to the explosion, looked amazing.
First hit I made was on the large merchant ship, was like all the old WW films, aim for the centre of the ship with the periscope and fire, huge explosion and sinks. (Mind you those 2 were the only torp hits I've scored so far, had 3 misses ! and 2 duds !)
When it comes to diffrent fuses experimentation etc no doubt I will be asking of assistance again (As long as no one minds helping out a sim newcomer !) I have no idea what the TDC viewscreen is all about, however I havnt needed it as of yet. Just wanting to get into it and get my head round the basic mechanics of the game before going into more detail, this is the first sim I have actually really played and enjoyed on the PC, tried IL 2 last year but just couldnt get away with it at all, even with all the help settings on and loads of the realism turned down. Might give it another shot after I have played this to death, so could be some time yet !
