Could HAT and TUMBLE and TRIG and TiG run 3d Mark 2001 SE for me?

Do it at 1024x768x32 (ie default setttings) and post the scores here.
I am aware it uses DirectX8 and most of us fly FB in open GL but it will give me a clue.

    Cheers

    Post them up here please.
Shuttle on IGP scores an impressive 4700 2001SE330 marks.
    2.4Gig scores just a tad over 9K.

no mate..its just a DX 9 card wont run the older version of 3dmark 2001.....it needs patching..but if you have a recent one, jobs a good un anyway.

Right..Tumble....2811 ........and TiG gets nearly 70% MORE than that on a built in vid card.....you have used it.

A Rad8500 le (a high class card, but 2 generations out of date) gives more than passable scores......

Even on an older chip, like Lowes AXIA at 1.4 gig, a Rad8500 LE will turn in scores of over 5000 with no hassle.

not many do matey.....not when you go for the "close up" view when aiming.

    BUT....imagine it on a Geforce 2 !

OK..David is assisting me on this one....shall haveprices tomorrow....

am gonna aim to buy 5 cards myself and then you lot can have first refusal on them. I wont be making on them, but I willonly buy them if they look like ace value.

Target card is a Geforce 4200 Ti (like Skiis) cos frankly they offer the best value by miles.

Other target is a Radeon but they are bigger dough....

Twas a sight better than mine TiG.... a moderate flak cloud and mine all but stops

'ppreciate the effort Zak - might just turn into a bit of demon with a decent frame rate, unless of course I just cruise about gawking at the purdy scenery

Not part of my plan matey....good if ya can get one......but lets face it....its gonna be £160 ish

I am looking to find cards the very right side of £100 and preferably way lower.....

summit I cann buy myself without killing my bank account and then offer to my mates here. If I do getsome, I shall happily lend them to each of you to test first and then you can post them back if you dont like or dont want etc......you'll all just pay postage until you decide to keep them.

I am only doing this on the budget end cos I am sure I can find some deals on older stock......Geforce 5 parts aresimply Geforce 4 components, re-engineered to prefer DirectX9...which is no use to anyone. So the older 4200 cards perform BETTER than the newer ones in most stuff that WE use.

If not, I shall get a low wnd Radeon in and test it and see how good it is.....

I am determined to drag the Marlins into the 21st Century for their own benefit.

But I repeat....I will only do it if its silly cheap/ace value.

LET NO ONE THINK THAY HAVE TO JOIN IN.......I was thinking about it over the weekend......no one is forced into this. If Hat or Tumble or anyone deosn't wanna buy one, I WILL NOT BE OFFENDED AT ALL......inevitably I can then get rid of this kinda card through eBay and get at least my dough back. BUT that is not the point. I would like people to at least SEE how good it all looks up there...in the big blue sky

Ive been putting off getting a new gfx card for a while... the reason being is that.. well, quite frankly I think they are overpriced.. I mean 300 quid plus for a gfx card? cmon get a life!

As such, I have been chugging aling fairly reasonably on my gts... But as you may have seen from another post of mine somewhre.. upgrading is now an option... and was thinking of keeping things down below the 100 quid level.

However a softmodded Herc 9800 Se does sound rather tempting.. but as you say £160...

pm me prices mate.. and stop me clicking that buy button tonite.

See little point in running a 3d mark.. as I know itll be below par....

I run IL2 at 600 * 800 with most things set to minimum detail..

I keep visibilty distance and object detail and lighting to a high though.

    Which brings up the point..

Gameplay vs Eyecandy...... It's the enemy plane I wanna shoot down , not the waves on the water.. would upping a gfx card actually make that much diff in gameplay?

I'm overdue for a GFX upgrade, I bought this R8500 when they were new and it cost me £230+VAT, that was erm, whenever the 8500 was new, I play IL2 in 1024x768x16 and CS in 800x600 and this card still does the biz tbh...

Only just read this post so I'll check when I get home, but would 3D Mark 2001 SE actually run on my 'ickle machine? Hehehe!

All I need to do now is get a new mobo to accommodate an AGP card (coz my GeForce 2 is PCI), new memory to fit the new mobo, new CPU for the new mobo and then finally a new GPU! Sigh! When will it end?

-edit- BTW Zak, I was just interested what you might advise me to get, not asking you to order me one too! -edit-
