there is no easy way of changing things, there needs to be education from grass-roots level, helping people see their is another way to live outside the constraints of capitalism and nanny-state, constrictive laws.

well actually if punky wants to smoke weed and claim benefits then more power to him.. but i think ur being slightly reductionist..

the means of achieving a decent society are a economc structure controlled by everyone ie industrial democracy, workers control

now i await the sheep shouting "human nature"

well, as far as benfit cheats go, I would shop em for sure. what about them gits on wife swap? 37k a year on benefits and it turns out the guy was doing fiddle jobs, I would shop any1 doing that for sure. I agre there is loads of government waste and I disagree with that as well, the war in iraq is gonna cost a LOT of money, Im sure we will never know exactly how much. I really dont see how that is gonna help the "war on terror" either, unless that is you think blowing up thousands of innocent muslims is gonna help....

as far as shopping people tho, I wouldnt shop any1 for a crime so long as they werent hurting any1, as far as im concerned benfit fraud means I pay more tax and that hurts me. when I say a crime that doesnt hurt any1, for example I know some1 who sells drugs (well a few people) none of them push it on any1 or sell it to kids, they just sell to people who wanna buy, simple as that so I wouldnt grass them ever, on the other hand if I knew some1 was selling smack to 6 year olds I may do somthing about it.

also, any1 see the sun the other day, woman on the front page laziest woman in britian...

The trouble is having a benefit system for those in need creates people who think they need, and in some case deserve!?

It's all down to expectations - people in the UK expect a comfortable life irrespective of earning it. Those less fortunate than us in other countries are willing to work for it, having lower expectations.

I'd scrap the whole system and start again, such that you have to earn you benefits, in the same way as you work towards a pension.

I would say that the majority of people claiming benefit could work if they wanted to, many just dont want to or are unskilled and just too stupid to learn sommat. lets not forget the criminal element, all those charvers nicking cars and burgleing houses are claiming too (ive met a few and never met one who doesnt, scummy gits). fact is punky you dont want to work, so if you claim in my eyes your claiming faslely, if you dont wanna work do what I did and stay in education for a few more years, at least then when you come out you will be so sick of living like a pauper you will actually WANT to work.

I belive there are a mjnority who actually cant work for one reason or another and in all honesty I think they should be able to claim it, because thats what its there for! I think if your capable of working then you should do what every1 else does and support yourself, I couldnt live on handouts, was bad enough when I was on the dole for a couple of months, lost all my self respect. I want to be independant as far as I can be, and I dont want to take anything from tony "warmonger" fecking blair!

I could be callous and say that if you can't contibute to a society then you don't deserve to get any of its benefits, especially being a believer in survival of the fittest. But obviously there are going to be people who were contributing but due to acidents cannot anymore, or people who's ability to contibute is impaired by disability.

But I'm with the big JC - let each give unto his own ability, and be rewarded in kind.

Excuse me, but I have earnt it. I've been paying tax and contributions for bloody years and haven't claimed a damn thing since I took a year long college course in '84. Why? I was made redundant. So I took a year out, got qualified and got a job. Haven't claimed a penny since but I sure have put a lot in. And still I'm not bitter about people claiming benefit, rightly or wrongly. Do you all think if all Social Security payments were stopped tomorrow you'd pay any less tax? Of course you wouldn't, the pittance saved would just go to subsidise big fat cat company directors with business grants; back-handers to building contractors; crazy schemes that cost a fortune and are scrapped half way through, etc., etc.

They're laughing at us. They see us squabbling amongst ourselves, pointing fingers at each other, while they're getting away with grand larceny and crimes against humanity.

You think you're better than benefit claimers? It's a quick fall from comfortable to destitute, believe me.

Just a small point - I didn't say I wouldn't take into account what people had already contributed, so don't start jumping up and down complaining about the taxes that you have already paid. My point was that the current system is a complete mess and thus there is no point in tinkering with it, just scrap it and start again.

I agree with you that the real villains are the government, you only have to look at the increase in govermental spending on quasi jobs to see that !!

Personally I don't think that I am better than better than claimants, pride before a fall and all that. But in the immortal words of Rimmer - "Better dead than Smeg!!"

I'm not jumping up and down, lol, boing, boiiiing, oops, there I go again

I'm not complaining either, just pointing out that I am in a position where I could complain if I wanted to, I have that right, but no, no complaints at all.

Of course I shall not complain about your right to complain, otherwise I wouldn't be able to complain about your complaining about what you said in response to what I'd said or something like that.
