Right then. It's in the news again. Which way would you vote (and why, if you want to post...)
Yes
No
Not sure

I would vote yes but am staying out of influencing a British poll as I would not have a vote anyway in your referendum.

I would vote yes but sadly I don't think the British people will even look at the main points of the constitution before voting on it. There'll just be a Daily Mail induced bout of Euro-hatred

Funnily enough there is an interesting article in todays guardian about that very subject...Originally Posted by GreenPiggy

Arguing that the battle for votes will be contested by newspaper editors, as opposed to politicians...

Well Murdoch has a lot to do with it happening in the first place so I would have to agree.

To be ohnest I dont have the foggiest either way. When the time comes I will endevour to find some unbiased info on the pro's & con's & make an informed decision. My apethy toward politics is bad I know. If more people stopped taking such a laxidasical attitiude perhaps we'd be in better shape, as a nation.
Its a good idea but this country isnt ready for it...
Dont know enough about the detail yet. Would be interesting to see how many ppl that take part in the polls in the newspapers could accurately say what the vote is about and what the changes will be! I guess many ppl that are asked to vote on "Europe" just vote for "Yes/No they want to be part of Europe" irrespective of what the question actually is.

I am pro europe but do not feel that any of our current governments could make it work for the general population. I would worry what it might do to the housing market, interest rates and various other economic factors.

I voted against, I think we should be involved in Europe but joining the Euro will allways be terrible for our economy.
Hang on, are we voting in favour of joining the Euro, or signing up to the European Constitution? I voted yes, thinking it was the former.
Rich :¬)
Sorry for the confusion. This is a EURO vote - not a European constitution vote.

Voted yes - i think its a good thing, although i dont know really know enough about it. I think in this day and age we really do have to become part of something bigger to try and compete with the likes of USA, China......The only way i see this happening is by welcoming the Euro, and the EU - trying to aviod and influx of immigrants along the way...:S

Euro? No thank you! Despite geographical proximity, there is a lot of difference between Britain and the rest of Europe. The ideals, the way of thinking. You can't deny the enmity between Britain and many euro nations, and one can't help but feel that the more power Brussels gets, the more they'll just want to 'assimilate' the British - make us less edgy, lose our 'rough' edges.
If you take a look at Euroland though, things aren't as happy as they might make out. In Germany, recent reports show unemployment way up, France is in major debt, and their super-duper health service is starting to really show its weaknesses. Then there's all that nonsense about headscarves. Spain just gained a new PM, who, judging by his actions concerning Iraq, will hardly be Britain's greatest ally.
Whether you agree with the whole Iraq thing or not, the fact is it's nice (and important) to be able to have your own say on what your country does with itself, and not just tow the Euro-line.
Oh, and I'm forgetting France's past (present?) obnoxious stance on British beef etc. - which is borderline illegal by its own Euro-standards.
Economically, the Euro isn't a good idea. Socially it isn't. With regards to sovereignty, it's suicide. People talk about it like we're creating Utopia - we're not. This isn't Star Trek, things aren't going to be happliy ever after when we come together to form one, glorious whole. People just aren't like that.
I don't see why we can't remain our own individual interdependent countries, and still work together. Good old Euro tolerance - it's not a matter of learning to live with differences, it's a matter or making everyone who's difference seem bad to you - become like you.
Rant over.
