6 arrested in Gateshead for burning Koran

    http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/north...2703-27327993/

So, for starters I just want to be clear that I don't really agree with burning any books and I am in no way a supporter of the EDL. However... in my opinion its just a book and there should be nothing stopping anybody from burning books they own. I really don't think the fact that some sections of society choose to take offence should come into it and we should protect peoples freedom of expression. I think there is quite a double standard here as well I would probably quite like to burn Tony Blairs book and that might offend some people so should I be arrested if I do it? Or is it just special rules because its muslims we are talking about?

I am tempted to go and getmyself a bible to burn and post on you tube just to see if thats enough to get me nicked.

"Arrested on suspicion of stirring racial hatred".

IMO this is a perfectly legitimate reason to get picked up.

Tony can't i suppose be classed as a race; or can he? To be honest anyone who burns books should be tied up in public and beaten with bamboo canes or of course serve a community sentence until they finish the Richard and Judy book list. Its the kind of things Huns used to do.

Ahh, but the Koran is just a book, and Islam is a religion not a race. Anyone who gets wound up over the burning of a book, deserves to be wound up. They should take the moral high ground and ignore book burning, but instead they normally display fake outrage. I find both sides in this ever repeated argument scum to be honest.

At the same time, it is a special book.

If you went into someone's house, and knocked an urn full of ashes onto the floor, smashing it, you'd hardly turn around and say "It's only a bit of pottery".

Besides, book burning is great business for book publishers, burning Korans means more cash for Islamic organisations.

Flags are symbolic too, that doesn't make them special, and I certainly wouldn't go looting and rioting just because some moron went and burnt a tricolour.

People need to be responsible for their own behaviour.

A special book, is a one of a kind, only copy in existence type of thing. The Korans they burnt were probably bought in Waterstones or WH Smiths for a fiver.

Thousands of videos depicting bibles being set alight already exist on youtube and the web, many by UK residents. I expect a full investigation into this racial hatred in 5..4...3... oh nm

Precisely, nobody has a right to not be offended. And if anyone breaks the law because 'someone offended' them, that's their problem, not the person who offended them.

Muslims should be given no more special consideration than is given for every other group.

Re: 6 arrested in Gateshead for burning Koran

Quite true, it has and should be equal in the eyes of the law.

But if your argument for six men in gateshead being given a license to burn religious text is fine because you take offense offense to some fellow on youtube burning another religious text; then I'm afraid I see no difference.

You're right religion is not a race. But you'll also find that the people who are going to be offended are not white; nor probaly from gateshead. These people set out to offend someone of neither thier own religious or gene pool.

Recently I caught some inbred looking boy urinating on a church; when apporached this retard thought he was some kind of comic genius/rebel. Should he be locked up?

Last point; if you're dopey enough to ship on your own doorstep and video it then you definately deserve to get nicked.

I agree... nobody should go "looting and rioting" for any reason. A lot of people would get angry if you burned a blag though, and fair enough, in my opinion. If someone goes out of their way to disrespect you in some way, then you're not always going to let it go.

In an ideal world you're right, people would just laugh it off and forget about it. Where I disagree is that I think it's wrong to dismiss something as meaningless just because it means nothing to you.
