Typical from a cannabis smoker! It is addictive! the number of people I know who just can't give up is ridiculous for a non-addictive drug!

thats actually the nicoteen in the tobacco thats physically adictive.. not the cannabis... it can be mentally adictive, you can get attached to the high, but in all the studies i've read (and thats quite a lot) theres been no real proof that cannabis is physically adictive...

but yep.. I cant believe i'm agreeing with DaBeeeenster again!! but legalise it...

I never said it was physically addictive. I just said addictive. People can't give it up as and when they like.

Also, why do we need drugs to feel good? Why not do other fun stuff? Like humpin'!

I did a really long post on this before hexus was wiped. I think these were my main points. I'd like to say that I was a big user of cannabis (allmost everyday) for over a year and quit because it was ruining my life so I have fairly strong views about it.

It should be legalised for medicinal use in extreme cases of MS etc in the form of a pill, in these cases the person is dieing anyway and pain relief should be given.

It shouldn't be legalised for recreational use. We know very little about it, there's lots of evidence it triggers schitsophrenia (sp?) and mental illness. It also damages your brain after long term use, you seem less sharp and you also lose motivation in your life. The danger is it's not harmful in the short term and once you become a long term user it's too late. It also is mentally adictive, I know people who have been using it over 3 years and have tried to give it up about 8 times now, once you get into a routine of doing it and become friends with other users there is a mental addiction.

The health problems it causes would put a massive strain on the NHS in the long run. Cigarettes were legalised by the Government and then look at all the problems that were later found that it caused! I'm sure if proper research was done into cannabis we'd find it causes much worse problems than people realise.

Legalising it would also cause more people to go onto harder drugs (this has been seen in countries where it has been legalised). This is for 2 reasons, firstly the people who try drugs in the first place to rebel and do something illegal (they may not be the majority but believe me it happens) would try another drug which would remain illegal instead.

Secondly there are lots of cannabis users under 18, if it was legalised there would be a very strict distribution of it to people only above 18 (unlike alcohol is atm). The under 18s who currently use cannabis and could no longer get any from their dealers would be offered a "substitute" of a harder drug from their dealers. I'm not saying this would happen with everyone but I'm sure we would see a rise in harder drugs.

TBH I'm happy with the law as it is at the moment as a class c drug, responsible users who can still get on with their lives and enjoy it occasionally won't be taken to court for using (the worse you'll ever get is it confiscated unless you're carrying a stupid amount).
