    Scan 3XS Pricing policy

    Hi all,

I put my order in for a 3XS i7 system yesterday but just have a question regarding pricing of the components - and what happens when the price changes prior to the build.

Basically it's just a little annoying that I purchased my system for around £1800 yesterday morning and then within about an hour the price of components had dropped so that if I'd ordered just that bit later I would've saved about £10 (doesn't sound a lot but a tenner's a tenner).
Just looked today and the price of the graphics card (a 4870 which wasn't and still isn't in stock) dropped another £23.

I'm just a little worried that by time everything's in stock and Scan start to collect the parts to build the order the entire system could be significantly cheaper (especially since the graphics card has no ETA) whereas I paid a premium for ordering early.

Anyone made any queries to Scan re: this and their policy on pricing (or can anyone at Scan advice)? Amazon, for example, would refund any difference in the price of an item between the time of ordering and when the item becomes in stock (and even if the price drops some weeks after receiving it). Any similar policy?

Just grates a bit, especially as Scan took the full payment prior to everything being in stock and before an ETA

    Thanks y'all.

    Re: Scan 3XS Pricing policy

SCAN have refunded the difference on my orders multiple times before (pre picking)

So AFAIK, they will do in your case, as i have done it many times, and alot of times i've grovelled to them asking them to change items over to their TO counterparts

    Re: Scan 3XS Pricing policy

because TBH, pre picking you could just cancel the order, so it makes sense for them to refund the difference, as it saves hassle for everyone

I'm not scan though, it's just my experience

    You tight fisted...

It does make sense to refund the difference than go through the trouble of cancelling an order (or several orders). No idea on actual SCAN policy though.

I also suspect it might work both ways, if the price of a product goes up, you get charged more. Just a random thought mind you...

    Re: Scan 3XS Pricing policy

Just spoke to Scan (Philipp) and they agreed to refund the small difference now and then re-assess the price and adjust accordingly when the build is ready to start. Thanks Scan

    Ditto here, Snowfall.

I placed my order on Wednesday and am trying to put it out of my mind while I wait... but failing miserably to contain my anticipation as I keep finding myself drawn back here to see what's going on. Ha ha! How sad is that.

So go on... just to pass the time while we wait, why not tell us what you've plumped for so we can drool along with you. I want to see the gory details!

    Software - Security: Norton Internet security 2009 v16 1 User 1 Year
Extended Warranty: Standard 3XS System Warranty - 2 Years (1st Year Onsite 2nd Year Return to Base)

The only items not part of the default configuration is the extra fast RAM, Blu-Ray and the upgraded sound card. Decided on the 4870 in the end but was torn between this and the 260 Black.
Spent AGES deciding on the config The case was a toughy since I was trying to get the right trade off between low temperature and noise...decided on the FT01 in the end as the solution as it seems the right balance and plus I just love Silverstone cases.
Will be adding a 2408 Dell monitor, a Logitech G15 and Logitech G9 at a later date...probably when I go and pick the system up
Would probably like to discuss the options with SCAN of getting rid of the card reader (as there is one in the monitor) and whether the extra Amber fan in the config - specified to replace the one at the rear of the case - is really appropriate.

I quite like the fact that the graphics card, soundcard and PSU all have a bit of red on them...gotta keep a bit coordinated you know

Hope the wait is bearable for you NightOwl, I'm going on holiday for a week so at least that should take my mind off it for a while

    Re: Scan 3XS Pricing policy

    Hi Snowfall,

Good choice! I just got almost exactly the same system, except I went with the GTX260

It is a great system, I am very pleased with it. I will be posting some pics of it this weekend...

NOOOOOO!!, not norton!!, kill it!!, kill it with fire!!

Norton is the biggest piece of junk going nowadays, it started out decent, now it is just poop...

For decent internet security look at Kaspersky, Avira, Avast! etc, much better products, and don't hog as many system resources either...

I tried to find good reviews of all the Anti-virus/security stuff but struggled.
I know what you mean about Norton, I used it years ago and hated it....but I have heard it's got a little better recently.
I've always been a bit of an AVG-man but really don't like the latest versions which also seem a bit hogging/intrusive...will have another look and maybe change my mind during the build...

There's quite a few threads on hexus about AV programs, most terminate with recommendations of Kaspersky, Avast! or Avira TBH

I have no idea what Scan's policy is, don't speak for them and don't know what they might do in a one-off that isn't a policy. I also understand where you're coming from.

    But I have a question.

When you buy a PC, surely you agree a contract, at a moment in time, to buy a machine. That's the point at which money is taken.

While it can be galling if prices drop after that point, think of the converse situation. If prices rose after that point, would you expect Scan to be calling you and saying "We know we agreed a price and have a deal and you paid and all, but prices have gone up £30, so please pay the extra". I sure as hell wouldn't be impressed if they did that.

So the inference from this request is that if component prices go down, Scan are expected to reduce their prices, but if prices go up they're expected to absorb the hit, even if they've already ordered the bits for your build at the old prices.

It rather seems like a case of one way you win, the other way Scan lose.

In other words, and this a personal opinion and not an official HEXUS one, the request is just a bit cheeky.
