    3XS P55 OC - Custom Series Order

    Hi Scan!

I want to order a 3XS P55 OC - Custom Series system for my birthday (13th Dec) but I have a few questions I’m hoping you can answer before I purchase!

Firstly looking at the 3XS P55 OC - Custom Series - New Oct 09 page and it says it comes with a 2 year warranty (first year on-site 2nd return)

    Qty Components
    Case
1 Coolermaster Elite 335 Black Mini Tower Case
    Default Products
    1 3XS P55 OC - Custom Series
    1 Asus P7P55D LE, Intel P55 Express
1 120mm Scythe Gentle Typhoon Cooling Fan
    1 Scan System Configuration
1 Scan 3XS System - 1year Onsite Warranty (Mainland UK)
    CPU
    1 Intel i5 750, 2.66Ghz, 8Mb Cache
    CPU Coolers
1 Prolima Megahalems Super 6 Heatpipe Tower Cooler - Award Winning Cooler
    Overclocking
1 Your choice of CPU professionally Overclocked by our 3XS engineers by 1000Mhz.
Memory - Selecting 8Gb will limit the overclock!!
    1 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600)
NVIDIA Graphics - Multi GPU SLI Options Available
    1 896MB XFX GTX 260, 680MHz GPU, 216 Cores, 2000MHz GDDR3
    Power Supply Unit
1 550w Corsair VX Series PSU (Single Graphics Card)
    System Drives
    1 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache
Floppy Drive / Flash Card Readers & Writers
1 Akasa AK-ICR-07S 3.5" Internal Multi Mem. Card Reader Incl. M2, Micro SD & USB port
    Optical Drive 1 - DVD/Blu Ray
    1 Sony AD-7240S-0B - 24x DVDRW
    Operating system
    1 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 32/64bit - Retail
    Extended Warranty
    1 Standard 3XS System Warranty - 2 Years (1st Year Onsite / 2nd Year Return to Base)
But when I add to my basket it says only LN1272 Scan 3XS System - 1year Onsite Warranty (Mainland UK) in the description in blue?

    Also,

I was wondering why adding another 4GB of memory will limit the overclock? Does this mean I won’t be able to add more RAM to the build in the future without it going wrong? And if I can add more RAM in the future will I have to remove the nice big CPU cooler to get to the extra RAM slots?

I hwould be very thankful if someone can enlighten me with regards to all this as I’ve been looking to buy (originally was going to self build) for the last 6 months and in the time of searching and reading I've found your site, build quality, components used and your customer service to be head and shoulders above all the competition which I have been looking into.

    Regards

    Simon

Edit: I forgot to mention the reason I'm going for the Custom Series is to swap the XFX GTX 260 card for the HD 5850, I know you guys must be sick of people asking this question but if I do order within the next few weeks will the 5850 be instock intime for me to get my system before Christmas? Thanks again

Re: 3XS P55 OC - Custom Series Order

    Simon,

(i'm just a punter too, who knows bit's n pieces, but no expert )

I asked about RAM upgrades too - i think the trouble is that it can stress motherboards etc to drive higher amounts of RAM at higher/overclocked speeds - often the fastest overclocks need only two sticks of ram.. rather than 4. I guess the fewer chips involved, the less chance of mis-timings and it going wrong.

as for ordering... I think I ordered 6th nov.. and have a provisional 1 dec build date - due to it being a busy time.. that can change if a slot comes up. graphics cards are also a bit of a hold up i believe.. i went for a gtx285 in the end.. but then have asked about a 5870... and have been told by the helpful scan team that if one comes up i might be able to swap out if it's before build time.

Re: 3XS P55 OC - Custom Series Order

Thanks for that Krispy! I have no idea when it comes to over clocking, but that makes sense, so thank you I guess 4gig of ram should be more than enough.
I might end up going for the GTX 285 if the supply of the 5850 is a big issue. But I hope someone from SCAN can advise me on this.

Re: 3XS P55 OC - Custom Series Order

    Hi Simon teh Sloth

I can confirm that the system comes with a 2year total warranty, its broken down into 1st year onsite and second year return to base.

Krispybs right about the overclocking using 4 sticks puts more strain on the board and does limit the overclock somewhat, 4Gb is more than enough for games especially with windows 7 lower memory footprint.

Urghhh 5850s stock is awful at the moment, we seem to be getting bits and pieces here and there so to speak, your best bet is to order the card you really want ie 5850 chances are it will be in stock before your system is built (prior to xmas) if it doesn’t come into stock we can always swap it for something else without affecting the build/dispatch dates.

Feel free to fire any other questions across

    Cheers

Thanks Philipp! I think that’s all I need to know for now, if I think of anything else I'll ask.
    Thanks a lot!

I’m now just patiently waiting for an email to let me know about the stock (ati5850) and date build act.

I was just wondering if it was possible to change one of the components (main component?) I've ordered and paying the price difference?

I ask because I've just seen the ASRock P55 Extreme motherboard for only around £8 more than the basic P7P55D LE and its allot more future proof, but it also depends if you guys are willing to build from this board AND if it comes into stock without delaying the build ("Item currently awaiting an ETA."). - Sorry to be a pain.

    Thanks Phillipp
