    GD65 CPU Socket

Hi, is it possible to get spare parts for the MSI P55 GD65, i am after the CPU socket, it would seem at some point when i have been fitting a cooler i somehow have managed to bend or break off one of the pins in the socket.

I believe this to be the cause an issue where only 2GB of my 4GB memory kit is usable.

Please let me know a cost.

    Re: GD65 CPU Socket

    Hi Yosh,

Unfortunately we have no facility to purchase spare parts as these are usually all handled in house by the manufacturers repair/warranty teams. Depending on the severity of the damage, they may be able to offer a chargeable repair or similar service if you enquire. Was the board bought from ourselves? Scansured?

    Re: GD65 CPU Socket

    Hi Lee

I bought the board before xmas from yourselves. The item was not Scansured.

I would hazard a guess i bent/snapped one of the pins on the socket when i tried fitting one of those Arctic Freezer coolers (purchased and fitted after xmas) i also bought from Scan.

Its not really worth me sending the whole board away to MSI for socket, but if i can obtain a socket i could fit it myself.

Can you provide a cost of a repair, or do you mean i should deal with MSI direct?

    Re: GD65 CPU Socket

No offence, but I highly doubt you would be able to change a cpu socket. The amount involved doesn't bare thinking about. P55 uses the LGA 1156 socket. That means 1156 pins. That means 1156 solder points onto the PCB, which could be across multiple layers.

If you weren't scansured, you'll want to contact MSI, as there is nowt scan can do about it afaik.

I would imagine they will take your old part as part ex on a refurb board. Its probably not worth repairing as I have said above.

I only assumed it came out easier and had some form of connection, not 1156 different connection between the socket and the pcb.

Anyway, contacted MSI they don't want to know, no one can help, Great.

    Re: GD65 CPU Socket

Ive seen this sort of problem before, the board often ends up being sold as spairs or repair and being bounced around different people.

What sort of state is the pin in? Can you still see part of it? It maybe that someone can solder on a tiny piece of metal to replace the damaged pin. I wouldnt know where to start looking though.

A mate had this exact same problem with a Maximus II Formula, in the end the cheapest option was to sell the board as faulty and buy another
