    OCZSSD22VTXE120G not performing 100%

    Hi Scan support,

I bought OCZ/OCZSSD22VTXE120G on June 16,and did not use it as I was waiting for my new macbook.

I noticed straight away that the drive was slower\smaller formatted size compared my other OCZSSD22VTXE120G. At work they purchased 12 of these drives and they found that 5 of them were also experience the same issue as me.

After they investigated this issue they found that these drives were not the same type as the other 7 and that OCZ was using a bigger SSD die 64GB instead of 32GB and due to the new 2Xnm process the speed was affected also. Link to OCZ forums http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...OCZ-SSD-drives

After having installed boot camp in my Mac I was able to run some tests to confirm if I was correct in my assumption that there was a speed drop and smaller formatted size.

Our IT department has had to send them back to OCZ on RMA and this is still ongoing after 2 months.

Seeing as I bought these recently from scan I would like to deal with Scan for a replacement and not directly with OCZ.

I have two questions for Scan regarding this:

    1. OCZ made their sellers aware of this in early of this year (February I believe), and other shops have been displaying correct speeds and mentioning that these are using 2Xnm process. Why didn't Scan do the same so that us the buyers were aware of this at the time of purchase?
    2. How can I go about replacing this drive with the one I wanted and was advertised?

I appreciate your reply on this matter.

    Regards,
    Hugo

Re: OCZSSD22VTXE120G not the advertised product

    hmsq82

This SKU is 64GB die size - When 25nm (32GB Die) SSD's were released, OCZ started to ship these under the same SKU, so in fact you have been lucky to receive the 25nm drives as they were / are not advertised as 25nm, so you have been sent what you ordered.

Having said that OCZ may swap the drives out, however as far as I know this would have to be done directly via OCZ.

If you can PM me your Invoice number I will look into this.

    Best Regards

    Hi Chris,

I'm not to bothered about the die size as I understand what it is being used for, my main concern is the speed performance I have noticed, which OCZ did not mention when they changed these drives and kept using the same SKU and referring to advertised speeds Read 285MB/s, Write 275MB/s.

I'm getting around 190 read and 130 write, from post from clients they have found out that clients were not too happy of being "cheated" like this and they decided to offer this replacement, correctly so. For more info regarding my issue please refer to this site. http://www.overclockers.com/oczs-25n...rmance-issues/

My invoice number was added in the post.

Thanks Chris for your time in looking into this.

The Die size is related to the speed...

Leave this with me to look into.

    Hi Chris,

It will be a week today since I asked for some support on this matter, I still do not have an update.

Could you let me know what is going on, or do I need to escalate this?

    Regards,

    Hugo

Re: OCZSSD22VTXE120G not the advertised product

It is almost 3 weeks since I posted this but have had no reply since, I think I'll take this up another way with scan.

I guess calling will be better!

I have changed the title of thread to reflect the issue clearer, I have also called Scan to get an update, but no answer yet.

Please bear in mind the RMA was not processed through SCAN, but we are trying to help as you originally purchased through SCAN.

I have contact our OCZ account Manager twice already for you and will try to source an update for you again now.

    Re: OCZSSD22VTXE120G not performing 100%

I would like to close this thread as it it useless to remain open.

Having waited almost 2 months for Scan to resolve this I decided to contact OCZ directly, I'm now being sent a new drive by OCZ.

I now know not to buy from scan again, I have purchased some things from you recently and that will be my last.

Have you contacted OCZ again about this. We do not have your SSD and the Return was not processed through SCAN. We were trying to help but also not getting any answers back from OCZ either, however it seems your replacement has now been arranged.

If you choose not to purchase from SCAN again because of this, it is very unfortunate but to re-iterate this RMA was never processed through SCAN. If you had actually processed the RMA via SCAN then I am sure we could have done more to help resolve this much quicker.

    Re: OCZSSD22VTXE120G not performing 100%

    Hi Chris,

So what you are telling me is, that all I needed was to contact scan through the website and ask for a RMA, and this would've been sorted out?

I did contact scan on the phone where I was told it was being dealt already so no need to raise a ticket.

Had I been told raise a ticket through your website I would've done it, I was expecting to have been informed of my options.
I guess I was being a bit naive thinking that.

The warranty terms for the product confirm the warranty as RTB 3 Years to Scan.

You weren't asked to raise a ticket because you had already RMA'd the drive directly to OCZ.

I can appreciate the length this has taken isn't ideal and I have made OCZ are aware of this thread.
