    Motherboard battery problem

    Hi
I bought components including a Foxconn P9657AA motherboard to build a system back in December. The system worked fine after I finished building it but after around 5 weeks I started getting a ‘CMOS checksum error’ on startup after the mains power had been off. I replaced the battery on the motherboard and this solved the problem, however after a further 4 or 5 weeks the problem started again and all my BIOS settings and the windows clock were reset each time I powered off my pc.

I then emailed the technical department at scan but the reply stated that the two batteries both could have been faulty and that they didn’t know what to suggest so I just put a third battery in the motherboard and the problem was solved again. This week the error started again which means that the motherboard has required 2 new batteries in addition to the one that it came with. All of the batteries were new when I put them in and showed about 0.2 volts when tested after I removed them.

I couldn’t find anything about this problem on google so any help or ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    James

Sounds like something is pretty wrong to be draining the battery to such a low level so quickly.

    Have you tried contacting Foxconn?

These batterys should last years not weeks, i would say you have a problem motherboard, or a cmos jumper in clear cmos posistion (most pcs dont turn on in this posistion).

I found another large thread on a different forum talking about motherboards will battery issues but no one gave any solutions, just 20 people all reporting the same thing (different MB manufacturers).
