Recommend me a comfortable mouse for gaming and office work

    hello all

i,m using the basic Microsoft optical mouse and it has never given me any probs?

its been with me for over 5 yrs and i think my hand is feeling the strain, i do a lot of office work and game (strategy and FPS not online though).

can some recommend me a mouse that’s is very comfortable and good for the above applications.

i have come few Razer's on the forum in particular the copperhead and deathadder seems to be popular.

    Cheers in advanced

I have the Logitech G5 and its the best mouse I've ever laid my hands on

The new 2007 edition is great and has textured feel to it so sweaty hands don't slip. It is also very comfortable for normal use and I sit at my comp for 10 hours at a time without hand pains now that I have the logitech so I can't speak highly enough for the logitech mice.

If you want something a little less fance you can get the MX518 wich is also really good.

Well for comfort, it does depend on the size of your hands, the size and humppyness of the mouse.
Also I find the height of the surface the mouse is used on compaired to your sitting height is very important for confort duering extended use.

That said, the old Logitech cordless mx700 has been one of the most confortable mice I ever used as it fit my hand so well, I've used the MX400 Laser mouse and it's also nice.

I think I like the Logitech's for there more humpy shapes rather than the flat slopyness of the razors.

However, I'm currently useing an A4tech x-750bf which I got for £18 which I find is a little small/short but the rubberised matterial & plastic surface of the mouse is very nice, no more sweaty hand problems.
Amazon have it for £20.71 not the best but for £20 or less it's good value

Another vote for the G5, the best mouse I've ever used, far more ergonomic than the Razers. Pretty much flawless.

I have got both the Logitech MX1000 and the new Logitech G5 (black and blue one with 2 side buttons). For general office applications and internet surfing, the MX1000 kills the G5. I have configured the extra buttons on the MX1000 differently for all my different applications using UberOptions, and now I cant live without it.

For shooting games, the G5 is better than the MX1000 because you can change the sensitity (I always decrease when sniping, etc, and makes it much easier) and it is slightly more responsive, where in fast paced shooting games you can actually notice slightly.

However, for stratergy games, the MX1000 is better as once again I can configure couple of the extra buttons for actions in the game so that I can access them quickly by the press on a button.

The battery on the MX1000 lasts me about 10 days before it needs a recharge, which I think is more than enough. Plus charging only takes about 1.5hours.

For your situation of mainly office based programs, stratergy and fps games, I think the mx1000 generally suits you better as the extra couple of buttons are extremely useful for the office apps and stratergy games.

Or you could do as I have and have both the G5 and MX1000 for the best of both worlds

If you do chose to get a logitech mouse, I STRONGLY recommend you download UberOptions as it opens up so many more options in SetPoint that you cannot normally access, which make an enormouse difference once you have configures the mouse exactly to your needs.

I have never used a razer mouse or the new microsoft gaming mouse so cant comment on them, but I am 100% satisfied with my Logitech mice and dont think I will be changing them any time soon

    hello all

    thanks all for your suggestions

    my findings so far

the copperhead seems like a good mouse and have seen it and use it, itsa bit like what i have now but a lot better. what i didnt like is that there is some sort of rubber layer which peels off easily and i suspect is the same as the deathadder as i read some where thats that material is all over it.

so at the moment i,m looking at the g5 and mx518.

Well if you're fine with corded then I'd sugest the MX400 (laser), £10 less than the MX518 (optical) and half the price of the G5 (laser)
The main area of functionality you lose is the speed switch, but I'm not sure how well it's done on them.
Main reason I mention it is that my A4tech X7 has 6 speed settings from 600dpi to 2500dpi, great in theory but changeing speed means cycleing through 6 settings in only one direction

But I do love my X7 for all it's faults, the good points still out weigh them. Cheap, good laser, smooth glide, great feel, well placed buttons, tripple tap button, nice non-cluncky software utility and can set the vertical and horrisontal speeds to differnt amounts (nice in fps when you don't want the up/down as twichy as the left/right)

And laser is great if like me opticals get jumpy on your desk serface.
