    Quick Memory Question

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...roductID=80024

Looking at getting the above chip for about half a dozen PC's in the office to give them a little more oopmph, but I'm not 100% if they match correctly or not because CPU-Z (see screenie below) reports a different memory speed to the one listed.

Basically, should this work along side one of the exsisting 256MB chips?

Should be ok, double check that the motherboard can use 1gb memory sticks.
You'll also need to set the Tras to 8 in the BIOS.
Apart from that it "should" be fine.

pc3200 is backwards compatible so will run at pc2700. I have upgraded Dell machines in the past with 1gb modules and they have been fine.

At the moment the system has 2 x 256mb modules. You would be better of removing them (sell them on ebay) and putting in 2 x 512mb modules to keep them running in dual channel.

If you must get the 1gb module, mixing memory may cause problems so if it does remove the 256mb module.

the performance gained from dual channel is negligible except for the most extreme of cases
    its just marketing talk.

Thanks guys, it was mostly the difference in memory speed that threw me!
