Loading up the main page is fast for me. Going into any sub-categories takes ages, most of the time is spent waiting to respond - same with searching.

Hi Chris... sorry if my comments were a little blunt, my only excuse is my Northerness.
To be frank the Scan website IS a pain to browse... it is simply not an intuitive layout when compared to sites like OCUK and Ebuyer, I know more than a few people who think the same inside and outside of work and personally, and it's a shame as I like to buy from you as a company. Little things like the way the CPU's are all labelled in their sub-sections, it's just fiddle and not immediately apparent what's what if you're unfamiliar with the site.
A bit of time spent cleaning up the layout and interface would work wonders for it in my humble opinion.

trust me you'll get used to it
i found it weird when I first found scan but now it's just easyy
it's not that hard to use is it?
well i suppose ordering into categories like ocuk and ebuyer would help. i only found it different not complicated to use
No worries I am also a Northerner
I can;t say much apart from watch this space and I will forward your feedback to the web designers to take into consideration.
Best Regards
Yep, it's painfully slow here as well, and has been for months.
The site loads up fairly quickly, but the searches take a long time.
I could have sworn that I posted about this before, but I can't find any mention of it now
It does seem slow going in to categories - a long pause of 10 - 20s followed by 25KB/s loading (in Opera).
As for the layout, yes, some clarity as to where one is would be v. useful, along with the ability to go back up the route on links, especially from Search, e.g:
You're in: Home Components & Storage Motherboards & Processors Motherboards
filtered by: Chipset: AMD / ATIAMD 690G Processor Socket: AMDSocket AM2 Form Factor: ATXMicro ATX
(from DABS - not the best site but easy to use; OCUK is better, but...!).

Hi Hexus peeps
I did some late night tinkering for performance - you should see the difference already, particularly during busy periods. Particular attention was given to the product listing pages and search facility.
Not sure what the score is with the thumbnails - I don't often code for the site and I've never had it happen to me, but if we get a good example we can reproduce consistently, that would certainly help.
The feedback you guys are generating all helps us to serv0r (sorry) you better, so please keep it coming and thank you for your whinging ... urrr ... efforts so far
Anyway thanks for reading, now go buy that 8800GT, you know you want to

Searching for items and selecting categories is much faster today than it was yesterday.
It is a lot better.
Thanks danmac for your effort.
I just wanted to say I felt bad starting this topic as everyone starting to shout!
It was just to check if I was an isolated case!
But I am glad the issue has been resolved.
Thanks again for your support.
Personally I like the Scan site and page layouts. It can be slow at times when loading a whole page, but then you can browse all the products in one go and not just 10 at a time (as EB, although theirs is usually fast).
When I used dialler large pages from Scan sometimes loaded without thumbnails (an intelligent assumption from the server side?). Smaller pages or less busy times they loaded with thumbnails.
When you are aware you can force it either way thru editing the URL if you want faster., or if you know more what you want then use the subcategories and things load a lot faster.
Please dont redesign to go to those horrible overly nested pages, as to wade thru 10 levels of nested categories to find one item at the end of it is a waste of life. OK when you know what u want, but browsing to see what else u might want then sites made like that make me give up.
I liked the SCAN page as it is, I personally dont like the designs companies such as Aria or MicroDirect have.
I like the way you select an item, say Hard Drive and you get all the drives listed right there infront of you.
I like being able to go on the site, clicking the category I want, then finding my item.
Unline Aria or MicroDirect where you go on the site, click a tab for Components/ Products, then select what you want Hard Drive for example, then you get you silly little drop down to select laptop, external etc, then when the page loads, you get the silly box with filter options, that as you reload the page, which is a pain if you want to select more then one option, for example, IDE then Maxtor or who ever as the manufacturer.
It takes to long this way and quite often I decided not to order from them.
