Occasionally I have the same site issues, it just runs very slowly.

Overall though I like the layout of the site, its easy to find a particular product.

    Things I don't like though.
Thumbnails get turned off for no particular reason (No easy way to turn them back on)
Search is crap for things like hard drives as the naming for different drives is inconsistent. Eg 500GB and 500 GB

easy way to turn thumbs on is change the thumbs=no to thumbs=yes in the address bar.

That isn't an easy way though is it?

I know you can do it in the address bar, but to expect customers to do that is crazy

As Dan has said, he's not the main coder he's just the poor chap that has to fix things when they break or fall over.

As such I think he's aware of this issue and will be relaying the information to the right person so they can delve through the code to see whats causing this.

Re: Is it me or Scan's website is very slow at times?

Just a quick FYI - the thumbnails can be disabled by clicking the "view" text above the thumbnails. We don't expect you to hax querystrings Note that the thumbnails, if switched on, will load after the page is viewable by your browser, so it's not really slowing you down unless you have limited bandwidth and are waiting for other pages to load etc.

You can also hold down CTRL while selecting manufacturers / categories in the search filter, to choose multiples.

To be honest (the design ain't my gig so it's not like I need to be defensive) I've always liked the site, even when I've been forced to rough it on 56k. Say I want a hard drive. Hit the Scan site, click Hard Drives, maybe sort by price and exclude certain manufacturers and categories such as IDE if I want SATA, then I have a decent list to work with. (in three page loads, two if I don't filter) Open tabs for each product I'm interested in (one page load per product, unlike some sites) then choose from those and click buy.

Regarding the thumbnails randomly appearing / disappearing, if this happens to you, please reply in thread or PM me with as much detail as you can give. Particularly, the URL you came from, and what you clicked on to make this happen. I'll pass it over to our programming team and they can hopefully nail it.

It generally happens when I click on the sub cats using the menu and load them in new tabs. (firefox/vista)

That's when I've noticed it most.

happens in xp too, any other tab with it doesn't have the thumnails, so if i choose 8800gtx pci-e from graphics section it wont show up, then i click view thumnails then the 8800gtx selection dissappears and it displays all cards etc.

Richdog "That's what they current have though..."

Not at all, you can view an entire list of a category or CHOOSE yourself to limit/subcategory it. You are not FORCED to wade thru a selection eg: click Hard drive, wait for page to load, click ide, wait for page to load, click 3.5/desktop, wait for page to load, click drives 120-160gb, wait for page to load and find one entry. Then go back and start over. (There being no option to 'view all product in category')

Maybe you use it like that, I just open hard drive internal main page, (on dialler then go away make tea or read news come back) on dsl look at the whole list in seconds, being able to compare every size and type of internal drive at my leisure without opening more pages.

Ref the MD pages, I preferred how they used to have it, but you can force it to behave to some degree using the filters, view by and show xx amount per page.

I suppose no site can ever please all the people all of the time, either Scans site just suits me or else I have adapted myself to find it more useful than some others!
