plus VAT but only if they collect it and return it.
if u sent it by ur own courier/post probably they would charge £20+VAT (10 fee and 10 to return?) if its NFF.

thanks rabbid and flipzero.
Yes its why if I cant fix something, I make very sure the fault is replicatable else it can end up costing more than binning the faulty part. Thats the downside of mail order (with any company).
Unless its an error in supply on their part or an obvious DiT claim, you are pretty much responsible for getting the part back to them.
rabbid, does scan provide any backup to their statements? i.e. they give testing results?
I don't know about testing results.
Luckily(?!) I spend some of my time in a driveable distance to Bolton so if I have a warranty issue I go and sort it out at the returns counter. It can take up a chunk of time but at least it gets resolved, again I make sure faults are replicatable before I go to save wasting their and my time.
edit:
I remember a long time ago (before I ever came to NW area) I had a suspected faulty stick of RAM. Back in those days I had not heard of MEMTEST but after raising an OLQ returns advised me to dload and run memtest. I got a number of errors in certain memory ranges & duly informed them and they raised an RMA. It was replaced with no issue but I did pay carraige to them (by recorded 1st class post like 1.50 or so). Scan couriered a shiny new stick back to me at their expense.
At a similar time to that I had a query about a then new out Abit NF7-M mobo. And they responded with a very long list of things to try! It seems my problem was the RAM above giving me grief and a little later on Abit released a BIOS update that cured the rest of my issues, so I wonder how that would have gone if I had jumped at sending it back? Patience can save you money with these things!

My issue was a motherboard and CPU failing to POST, without even any warning beeps (but fans running). Tried everything in the book before returning it, except that is for another PSU as I didn't have a spare at the time with the now requisite CPU power connector.
Of course turns out upon it's return to me after testing ok that the fault IS with the CPU power lead on my 16-month old XClio Greatpower PSU (also from Scan), gutted.
Do you mind telling us some more details of the item/proposed fault?
Its hard to make a comment either way as we arent party to whats gone wrong initially.
edit:
ah read my mind
Oh, you didnt have the auxilliary 4pin power connector?
I dont think any current cpu will work without this nowadays
Or do you mean the 20-24 pin main ATX?
Pity you didnt come here first and post before RAMing it, we could probably have saved you some hassles and cash.
So do you have a working setup now or waiting for newer PSU?

Scan do provide a very good service, hence why they have been in business such a long time and why they have so many customers going back time and time again, myself included.
Before you say it this isn't me "arse licking", its just a shame their business isn't idiot proof so they can prevent customers clicking "I agree" without putting their reading glasses on first. Do you do the same with EULA's and finance agreements? I'd hazzard a guess that you do

Oh no, now they will make us scroll down all the T&C and pres F8 to continue setup, I mean checkout
i wonder who reads the Ts and Cs everytime they buy something? if everyone did, i am sure the sales for every company would drop
BTW I edited my earlier post while u guys were chatting above, asking about which connector you didnt have or as faulty?
It gets confusing as while I take so long to write a question the thread has moved on!
I would bet that 99.9% of people don't in all honesty (but I'm not including finance agreements in that) but my point was you can hardly complain after the event if you didnt read the t&c's.
Thats why my post ended with a winking smiley rather than a roll your eyes in the sky one
