    Clarification of a pre-ordered item

Hello Scan people. Once again you have removed a very large amount of my hard-earned cash from my wallet! I've just ordered a lot of hardware for my new PC.

Anyway, one of the items was an 8800GT card that was on pre-order. I was not charged for this but told that I would be put on a queue for the item. I'm hoping that the item will be available very shortly (it's item LN20475). However, please could you clarify what options I will have over the next few days regarding the pre-ordered item as I don't want to delay the build of my PC too much.

Re: Clarification of a pre-ordered item

    I pre-ordered this one:

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

It's the 512MB XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog. The reason for my question was that other suppliers are providing estimates (which may or may not be accurate) but Scan do not have an estimated delivery date. I might get lucky and only have to wait for a day or two or it could take weeks and i'm not prepared to wait that long. Hence, I need to know what my options are if I do have to wait for more than a day or two.

Re: Clarification of a pre-ordered item

To confirm pre-order status, we would only be able to allocate stock pre-order stock if payment has been authorised.

Re: Clarification of a pre-ordered item

Hi Chris. How do I know that's happened? When I checked out the pre-ordered item was separated from my main order. I was only charged for in-stock items. I got a message saying that I will be put in a queue for the pre-ordered item and when it is in stock I will get an email asking me if I want to go ahead and buy it at which point I will be charged for it.

Does this mean that my payment is pre-authorised already for the pre-ordered item? If so, I assume that I will be allocated stock when the item is available.

    Taz

You must have selected Part Shipment order, the 8800 GT card will be shown under the Outstanding Products link via the My Account link.

If you would like to pre-order the item, please resurrect the order through your account, payment can be made and the item can be put on pre-order for you

Stock will only be allocated if payment is made

    Best Regards

Hi Chris, that's exactly what I did. I shall rectify that shortly. I was a bit confused as I wasn't charged for the (preorder) graphics card. Now that you've explained the process in more detail, it makes sense. I could have ended up waiting for an email inviting me to buy the card that I probably wouldn't receive for weeks on end as the cards would have been preallocated to other people.

Re: Clarification of a pre-ordered item

Chris, I have a related question. Am I committed to buying the pre-order item (that is showing in my outsanding Products list)? I may be able to source a graphics card from an alternative supplier and I need to ensure that I will not be charged for the pre-order item.

Re: Clarification of a pre-ordered item

If the card is left in the Outstanding Products section no back has been placed, no stock will be allocated and no payment will be taken.

If you resurrect the order and in the incredible event an alternative supplier has stock before Scan you can of course cancel the order for a full refund

    Hope this helps

However - unless you remove the item from your outstanding goods area - you will continue to get notifications about stock situations.

Thanks for the info, guys. As you might be able to tell from some of my other threads, I am getting desperate for a video card so I have to order something to arrive by Friday.

Re: Clarification of a pre-ordered item

Hi Scan people. The pre-order system worked well and I did get an email telling me that the 512MB XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog XXX card was in stock. I have ordered one now but the estimated delivery date is showing as 19 November 2007 (Monday), despite the item being in stock and me ordering before midday. Could you guys try and get the card sent out today for delivery tomorrow as I could then start building my new PC over the weekend? That would help me out a lot. The invoice number is *edited*

^ I'll take that lack of response as a 'no' then. The card hasn't been picked yet so I obviously won't be getting it tomorrow.
