    Exclamation Need to RMA HDD

    Hi I need to RMA a recent purchased WD6400AAKS hard drive but I have no idea how to flag an RMA on your new website... I tried to install vista on it just now and the drive makes this really high pitched noise and then the whole pc freezes this is a new build so it can't be anything else!

    Is it possible to get a replacement dispatched and this duff drive picked up and sent back??

    On Scan home page:

    Click on 'Support' on the left hand side and then 'Returns' Fill in details and away you go!

    i wouldnt use scan, go to WD's website, find the support link and fill in the advanced RMA, they take your card details to make sure you send the old one back, then send you a new dive, you use the packaging to return it and jobs a good one

    i think u get 30 days to send in the old one from recipt of the new.


    very good system and would be 10x faster than scan doing it as scan insist on the dead drive 1st..

    wow. that does sound like a very good system. It means no more downtimes for PC users who need to do work, which is always good. (I'm even more glad I brought a Western Digital now )

    it comes into its own when your drive starts acting up, you get the time you need to transfer the data if the drive is usable.

    if not its still a lot faster than sending the old one and waiting for a new drive to be posted out.

    i used to buy maxtor and they offer the same service (not sure if they still do) so i expect a few makers also offer advanced RMA.

    Thanks for the advice Gonzo I might just do that. How long does it normally take for the advanced RMA drive to arrive? I'm using a pityful 120gb SATA 1 drive from my old pc as a stop gap lol

    Literally this week its all part of a new build. Maybe I should contact scan first then otherwise I'll send it to WD. I just dont want the hassle of having to wait around for it's replacement after I spent so much on this. It really makes this annoying loud pitched sound when it hits high rpms... pity coz this model of drive is supposed to be quite good

    I am sure as you have only had it this week Scan will request you send it back to them and they will replace it after a quick test.

    Wd take a couple of days, i doubt scan could collect it, test it and ship a new one that fast, hence me saying go direct.

    Well I rang Scan and they were uber helpful. It will be collected from me on Monday at work and they'll dispatch a replacement to work to! Here's hoping it will be speedy and hassle free!

    You done the right thing as you have only had the drive a week. Scan are awesome anyway and i am sure you will be happy with RMA'ing it to them.
