Re: Scan & Tagan Warranty (TG430-U15 Easycon Blew up)

Used 480W Tagan PSU for around 2 years no problem, I am currently using a 580W Tagan for 2 1/2 years no problem. *fingers crossed*

One of the main reasons I purchase Tagan PSU's is because of a UK based RMA centre.

Corsair's & OCZ's EU RMA centre is based in the Netherlands, would put me right of buying one of their PSU's although I did read a case where a customer complained about the postage costs to the Netherlands & OCZ reimbursed the postage fees, thats what I call good customer service.

Woudnt be a problem in the first year as you should return to the retailer anyway as far as I am aware.

Re: Scan & Tagan Warranty (TG430-U15 Easycon Blew up)

I bought two TAGAN 480W power supplies to build two PCs for family friends. One blew up and had to be replaced, the other was intermittent and I wasn't sure if it was my PC or the TAGAN. I decided to make my own investigations and discovered that the build quality inside is dreadful. I personally will not buy TAGAN again!

Tagan - Have been arond a long time but are certain not in the 'Best Class' of PSU manufacturers.

Enermax and Corsair are personally the only PSUs i would touch nowadays. Both have a very good RMA.
Corsair, as long as its bought from Scan, doesnt need the customer to post to Holland, its done in the UK.
Enermax have a UK based RMA system also.

Basically is what i've been told.
I got an email back from Scan yesterday saying basically after the 1st year tough deal with the manufacturer,I will be saying goodbye scan and will be spending my hard earned elsewhere in future.

I know some will pipe on "it's not scan's fault" well i think it is when i bought this psu it was return to scan warranty only since have they changed to after the 1st year! And so now this psu has cost me nearly £70.00

Thx scan for all the thousands i've spent there this is my first faulty product and your cust service is showing it's true side from what i've heard.

But it's always been like that? 1 year warranty from the retailer on all non oem products then after its the manufacturer that you have to deal with. Elsewhere would be doing the same thing, unless they are kind enough to help you with delivery.

Not sure who cheapest couriers are but best shop around, as the PSU's are obviously heavy.

Well I think ALL PSU's have somewhat of a risk to failing, for instance I did have one of the Corsair HX620W PSU's last year but it killed 3 systems, after being tested at a shop - the PSU was replaced by OcUK had the PSU 6 months but only just got round to using it.

Would it put me off buying another Corsair PSU? certainly not, at the end of the day I think their is a risk no matter what PSU you purchase.

My first PSU's where Enermax 250W I think it was, one failed after a couple of years in which it was replaced it with a better spec one & never had any faults, switched over to Tagan - everything fine *fingers crossed" tried one Corsair of which a nasty experiance as mentioned but I am looking at a Corsair PSU as my next purchase if my current one fails - 5 year guarantee cant go wrong although the Netherlands RMA process is very off putting.

I had a Tagan blow on me, I just sent it back to Tagan and had a brand new one sat in my PC within a couple of days, excellent service. After 12 months (or possibly less) it's really nothing to do with Scan at all.

I have to disagree,Scan ordered the bulk load from tagan and i collected it from Scan so i expect to be able to return it to scan for them to forward to Nanopoint.

Although even though i'm a tenner down i have to commend Nanopoint on their service as i've received a brand new TG480 Easycon upgrade just today very good turnaround.

I am sorry, I wasn’t laughing at your situation but the comment about the supreme uptime.

I can see that you now have a replacement upgraded power supply…enjoy

Re: Scan & Tagan Warranty (TG430-U15 Easycon Blew up)

I have two Tagan PSU in the household, an 800W in my Son's computer which is 12 months old and so far is OK and a 5 month old 1300W in mine which failed a couple of weeks ago, going with an enormous bang.

I eventually managed to find time yesterday to take it back to Scan where it was replaced without any fuss, apart from the fact that when they pluged it in to test it, it tripped one of Scans own main fuse boards.
I have yet to plug the new unit in (currently using a spare PC) so I don't know what damage the old unit may have caused, if any, to any other components in the PC, I do know so far, is that it has permently damaged my surge protector that it was plugged into.

When you look inside this PSU (through the grill) it is very worrying to look, at as it appears to have far too may components crammed into it at all angles. All seperated by slithers of plastic and some form of gunk.

You can disagree all you like but that doesn't change the fact that Scan do not handle warranties after 12 months on this range of products. This is common practice with online resellers and even most retailers.

For £10 you received an upgraded replacement on a product that served you for 20 months, that's not a bad deal and hardly worth complaining about. It cost me £5.10 to send a few sheets of paper to my accountant!
