    3XS SSD failing just out of warranty

    I'm probably just asking for advice here - I'll send to support directly in case I have more warranty that I realise.. but;

    My 13 month old scan machine appears to be going badly wrong, just after it's 1 year warranty has probably ended. It was a 3XS P55 OC - Custom Series - N machine, just the graphics card tweaked/improved I seem to remember to a 285gtx. its got an I7 OC to 3.8ghz.. and a 64 gig SSD boot/OS drive, and 1TB data HD. (build ref; 29258)

    The machine has suddenly started to blue screen fairly regular (twice an hour easy) - memory controller errors (not just those), and also files corrupting (errors shown by windows 7, slowly more and more files affected). Checkdisk seems to be unable to fix the file problems, it gets stuck looping trying to fix index $0 of 25, so I'm having to bypass the scans on booting up.

    I'm not sure if it's the memory, the SSD boot disk, or both that's suddenly started to fail.

    My guess is that it's the SSD drive - system files corrupting causing the blue screens. I realised the swap file was on the C: SSD boot disk, so moved that to the 1TB disk, also the browser temp files too.. but it's not stopped the crashes and errors.

    As the machine is probably just out of warranty, I may disconnect the SSD drive, and re-install windows 7 64 bit onto the 1TB hard disk, and obviously re-install everything... unless anyone has a better idea or tests that I should run against the SSD and memory to narrow it down?

    I guess the components don't have any warranty outside the machine builds 1 year?

    I've tried to keep the machine fairly 'clean' - only a few games on it, and very little web browsing (I have AVG installed to protect it), so I don't think it's virus/software issues. (I use a laptop for development and browsing).

    I'll give it a few days ... and then start the re-build with crossed fingers.

    Re: 3XS SSD failing just out of warranty

    As I understand it, the components retain their individual warranties.

    If the memory has a 10 year warranty, then you can get replacement memory for your 3XS machine for 10 years - the fact that the entire machine has a 1 year warranty is irrelevant once the first year is up.

    Give them a bell tomorrow and I'm sure they'll help you out - you shouldn't be having issues only 13 months down the line irrespective of which component it is.

    cheers if that's the case it might save me a few quid - happy to replace components myself. I'll see what they think.

    Just wanted to say thanks, you were completely correct. The memory was faulty (one of the sticks sent the memcheck mad), and it is back with Scan for a replacement.
