i am still wondering if its killing my graphics cards.

I noticed that under load my system makes a strange high pitched sound, its not loud but if i listen closely I can hear it. At first I thought it was my graphics card but now i wonder if its my motherboard.

could be that you have been unlucky, but as i said to you before, i had the p5wdh with the x1900xt and thats where my problems started, also with the ocz ram, the p5wdh died first, that was replaced with a gigabyte ds3, thats when i noticed the squeaking, then that died and at the same time, the x1900xt died as well...so not to be outdone by the cursed pc, i got rid of the ram (turns out loads of probs with this stuff), old psu (which is fine btw), rma'd the x1900xt to savastore (connect3d one, still waiting for a refund) and changed the whole lot and havent had any probs since...apart from the FSP psu which is going back today.

You get a fan that you can stick near the mosfets and that does bring it down by about 4c.

Its the design of the board and you look carefully its not as goodly designed as the gigabuyte quad DS6.

What happens is both the PWM chips and northbridge do get very hot especially when you are gaming and the board has built up more hotspots if anything.

You will see across forums about this , also the foam sheild you get should not be placed under the board , that is for the boards that have these problems , they get worse with it.

If you dont have heating boardf problems then the shield is a good thing.

If you are worried clamp a fan over them but i dont see you getting worried. Write to asus about it , if you still think its bad.
Where can I find out the maximum temperature for the ASUS P5W DH Deluxe? Does anyone have an official answer?

PC Probe II's default motherboard alert level is 45degsC, it hits that pretty quickly - just worries me since they set that as the default so it must be a level for some reason?

I'm not adding another fan, I bought the damn expensive case because it's meant to be quiet but so far I'm running 3 case fans, two on my 7900GX2, CPU cooler and PSU and it's not loud but I can hear it. Until I get my temps safe I daren't unplug any of them.

    What foam shield?

I have the P5w DH Deluxe also. I notice PC probe tems of about 45 with an Antec P80 case.
I have some arctic silver 5, however i am reluctant to change the thermal paste on the NB and SB in case it voids the warranty. Can someone confirm if it will void the warranty please? I presume its not worth the risk doing it if that is the case?

You know something , tweak your board up with the exact voltage it needs , that will take the excess heat away

Care to explain? I've no idea what the exact voltage is, and if I did, which part of the BIOS do I put it in and why?

You have a BIOS which you are using which sets all the voltages on the Board, Now for e.g. your CPU is a c2d and its suppose to run at about 1.32 Vcore. You can decrease it by 1 notch and see if its stable .

Most people on the leaderboard on forums will overclock the c2d by 500mhz without even increasing the Vcore. The BIOS is like a average setting for every core but if you can find exactly what you need it will make a lot of difference.

The access current changes to heat so if you can reduce the access current automatically your temps will drop.

Check on leaderboards in forums and see what Vcore they have at the speed they are running at you ,you will notice that even if they are running at the same speed there Vcore will still be different.

Everyboard , every cpu , every ram , every chip is unique in its own ways and finding whats best for them is called tweaking.

Your Northbridge might be MCH in your BIOS , decrease that by a nothce and run Prime to see if its stable.

Eventually you will find exactly the voltages what all your components need and this makes the difference in heat . Try it , I know it works.

If you missed that, it would likely explain the temperatures.

lol that knocks of about 5+ degrees! how silly do i feel
