    Re: HP N36L Microserver - £100

Ordered one just in time before the end of the offer for purchase date, should be getting it tomorrow (going to have a play over the bank hol weekend)

Anyone tried WHS2011 on it with the stock 1gb ram? Just wondering if I should get some more ram later for it (colleague ordered one too so will probably sell him my 1gb stick and go non ecc to save cash)

Just asking as the official min spec is 1.4ghz and the cpu is a 1.3ghz dual core..

    Re: HP N36L Microserver - £100

I think it would probably be fine, but all depends on how much you want to use on it. For WHS original, demigrator was one of the biggest CPU users, now that's gone it probably won't be too bad. Even so, an Atom was adequate.

Obviously though, as you start adding in media servers, torrent clients, etc it will get worse.

I ran Server 2008 on my Microserver for a while and it was absolutely fine, so I don't see why WHS2011 would be any different. More RAM might be handy, 2GB would be best imo. I bought spoon's microserver memory he had left over after he'd upgraded, doubled up to 2*1GB.

I believe the offer expires on 31May, therefore even if order over BH wknd it should be okay.
I am trying to find the cash to get one for myself...

Anyone know of a way to get around the 2gb min requirement for WHS2011?

Tried the cfg.ini file on a usb stick but it hasn't worked

Can I user the PCI-e X4 for anything else?

    From the Manual:

    I/O subsystem • One PCI-e x16 slot, which support one PCI-e x16 card (25W Max)
    • One PCI-e x1 slot, which support one PCI-e x1 card
    • One PCI-e X4 slot, which support one IPMI card

Does anyone know if the PCI-e X4 slot can be used for a PCI-e X4 Sata card or is it exclusively hardware setup to be used only with the IPMI card?
My question is PCI-e X4 universal to any X4 card or just "that" card.

    exclusive to that card

It's fitted after the 1x slot horizontally so needs a proprietary card to fit in there

You could just put the 4x card in the 16x slot of you have it free

Perhaps surprisingly the offer has been extended again, now 'til the end of June.

ML110 also has £110 cashback for this period, making one of those a shade under £250. Not a bad price at all, and may well end up with one to replace my ML115 ESXi host (the limit of 8Gib on the 115 G5 is a pain at times, and the 110G6 will take 16Gib)

From quick research NC107i NIC does not support Jumbo Frames.

Has anyone found anything cheaper than this as replacement: HP NC360T

You might not need jumbo frames, the N36L easily manages wire speed with SMB without them.
