Cant remember if I have asked this before - but has anyone actually got WOL to work for these unit yet?

I can wake mine via WOL. I'm running ESXi 4.01 and use the Solar Winds WOL Tool. I have the ESXi guest OS set to resume automatically on ESXi startup.

W7 Home Premium (not really using for massive server duties). I tried when I first got the unit months back, and couldnt get it working. Have managed without it, so its not major, but just wondering. I did use the solar winds tool, as I've used that with my other computers in the past, but to no avail.

    Re: HP N36L Microserver - £100

It's usually a case of enabling it under adapter properties and in BIOS.

    Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Centre>Local Area Connection>Properties>Configure

And from there it depends on the card/driver but for an Intel NIC it's under Power Management:

Yep, done that. I'd setup WOL a number of times for computers (usually for family member ones that I can help administer the system using logmein) so not a stranger to it. I enabled the options as per usual - in my case for the Microserver:

Note the first option is needed otherwise the other 2 are disabled. I also remember trying out some application that you run on two computers to test the sending and receiving of magic packets, though I cant remember the results. Net effect though was no WOL. Its the only computer I've not been able to configure in 5 minutes for this, so strange - will have to dig out some apps and see try again. Could be driver version too maybe, who knows. Anyone with it working on W7?

And it's definitely enabled in BIOS?

Are you trying to WOL on the LAN, or across t'internet? A lot of routers will drop the magic packet silently.

    Re: HP N36L Microserver - £100

Plus it's working at the MAC layer so it shouldn't be passing through routers anyway. You'd need to get something on the same LAN to transmit it.

Anyone got a stick of RAM lying about that they'd be keen to offload from one of these units, through upgrading?

On the off chance that anyone bought one as an impulse buy and is now having second thoughts I'm in the market for a second. If I don't get any offers by the end of the week I'll just pick up a new one, but....
