    Ripped off - advice?

After reading the old thread about dannyboy in FS/FT, I was wondering if there was anything I could do. I was ripped off in september on ebay. I bought an ipod and sent payment by nochex. The item never arrived and the seller claimed it must have been lost in the post. They said they were following it up with Royal Mail but I havent heard from them since.

Is there anything I can do now? All I have is the ebay ID of the person and their nochex address. Their ebay account was closed in november.

I'd decided that it wasnt worth the hassle and nothing would get done anyway but after seeing the dannyboy thread, it reminded me and I was wondering if there was anything I could do.

Will the police do anything though? It was only £99 and it was said in the other thread that police dont do anything unless its £1000+.

I can tell you the truth, but you wont like it...

In all honesty, you can report it but nothing will come of it. They wont admit it, but the police just dont have the resources to deal with a £99 theft on the internet

actually, do report it to the police, and fleabay. my first purchase on ebay was a subwoofer, and it turned out to be a scam. i got together with some of the other people that were ripped off and we all reported it to the police. it turns out that this bloke had took people for tens of thousands of pounds using a few aliases. it took about a year, but they arrested someone and he was charged with a load of counts of fraud and obtaining goods by deception. none of the pople that were ripped off had paid by paypal, but you can still get a claim in to ebay but they will charge you £15 for doing so. so you might get 85 quid back, you might not, but its worth a try, and why should that theiving little scrote have the cash and not you?

    report it anyway

Ebay unfortunately has become a haven for fraud especially for high demand items like ipods and gfx cards. i would recommend actually talking to a seller before doing any financial transaction. genuine seller can be got hold of. It wasn't Digital_World_Com that you bought your ipod from?

I got burnt before Christmas on ebay too. It's a painful lesson.

Never ever buy unless you see a pic of the actual item you are getting.

How very clever. Get banged up for assault for £400. Let the relevant authorities deal with it.

I think it would be worth reporting it to eBay at the very least. You never know, this guy could have ripped off loads of people for megabucks and if he has, the Police are more likely to take an interest. Also if you don't report things, no one is going to be able to get a clear idea of the extent of problem, which means more chance of this guy getting away scott free and doing it again....
