    Conroe prices looking good.

I thought overclockers.co.uk were the only site showing the new Intel Conroe processors but several other sites are also showing them:

    Novatech:

    E6300 1.86GHz £139
    E6400 2.13GHz £163
    E6600 2.4GHz £233
    E6700 2.67GHz £375

Dabs are doing similar price as Overclockers but Novatech seem to be 10% cheaper! At these prices, the Conroe looks very attractive.

My next systems looks like having a Conroe processor unless AMD cut the A64x2 3800+ to less than £100

They look great prices but I will also have to upgrade motherboard and memory also as I'm AMD at the moment. Very tempted though all the same as I fancy a change. (never had a Pentium yet)

Yes the motherboards look a little pricey although the Intel MB with the 965 chipset looks affordable at £88. I have no working desktop PC at the moment having sold off my Sempron 2800+ and my DFI NF3 MB.

The last Pentium chip I had was a Pentium-133

This is a pretty good in depth test with many cpu comparisons. Apparently the E6400 is quite comparable to an FX-62

Novatech prices seem good, but the worry seems to be in finding a decent priced motherboard.

Back whn the Northwoods were all the rage, my Abit IC7 was 'only' like £120 and that seems a lot for the time...

I am looking at the "Intel DP965LT 965 (Socket 775)" which overclockers sell for £88. I agree that a lot of the boards are in the £130-£170 range which is crazy.

don't forget to add 140 nickers worth of ddr2

    100 plus for the mobo

total to move to conroe for me would be over £400 so I think I will go for a cheap x2, should last me a year at the very least

Luckily for me im still using a dead end s478 system with nothing worth keeping. I get to build a new system from scratch with a watercooled e6600 at its heart.

These prices do look more promising, i had just got used to the idea of having to fork out £250, im a little relieved. Motherboards choices/prices are far less clear cut though.

You could probably get some decent ram for a little cheaper.

I think its all down to what system you're upgrading from. If you have a s939 machine with a low end A64 might be an idea to just get an X2 and wait. If youre on something older and havent upgraded in a while, no harm jumping to Conroe, if you want to switch back to AMD, the AM2 platform will make good use of that DR2.

Although from what ive seen of the boys over at XS and Futuremark, and the reviews from Anand and others, Conore should be a killer upgrade that no one should regret!

That is one thing AMD did very well with the release of AM2 was having a very good range of motherboards at launch, Intel should follow suit I geuss.

    Thats what im talking about

I made a new comp wth a GF6150 mobo and my 3000+, planning to get a 3800+ to get my main comp back up, and then get a conroe in september or october.

Based on the leaked pricing info from around a month ago, id actually expect retail 3800's to be heading fo this kinda price in the next couple weeks though. Certainly as the E6300 already has...
