    Buying abroad/ rip off britain

    Hi
I read somewhere (inquire I think) that the top model Microsoft Office 2007 in the states will be around $375 where the UK price will be over £600.

Anyone know if the US an UK versions of Office are the same and are the any implications for buying abroad.

I also noted a Intel E6700 for $503 at http://www.newegg.com (us) which again is much less than here.

    Kev

There was something on tv the other night and it works out cheaper to nip over to the US and pick it up yourself than buy here. Thats if customs dont get you on the way back

also if you are buying expensive laptop, then it would be worth while to get it from there, and best thing it will not be likely to be taxed, couple of people I know went to us brought laptops for themself

I've been living in the Netherlands for a while.

Whilst the exchange rate is meant to be about 1.45EUR to the 1 GBP. The reality whether it is food, drink or technology is that 1 EUR is about 1 GBP.

this includes paying the VAT equivalent at 19%. oh income taxe is higher - but not that much.

and Amsterdam is one of the nicest places I've lived.

    Yes GB is over priced

Nah, it's higher than that - close to $35 for importing legitimately, and $70 for a gift.

if you do go over to the USA on a cheap flight to buy a laptop, make sure you charge it etc, that way if customs check you can just turn it on to show that it doesnt contain a bomb or something....

you will get hit with customs charges if a legitimate company ships it over here properly marked, you could either get a (good) friend to ship it over here as a gift, or get an ebay seller to do the same

They aren't the exact figures, it's £18 for a purchase and £36 for a gift. Your friend in customs needs to perhaps think his job again.
