If you read this story on groklaw you'll realise how poor this court case actually is.

If it doesn't get thrown out on appeal it'll just show how this is all about protectionism in america.
No wonder Apple is the richest company. Half of their profits must come from patent claims. One thing I know for sure - I won't buy any Apple products. I rather go with competition than with ones that are afraid of it.
Btw I love my Samsung Galaxy S3. Also it looks miles apart from iPhone. Anyone thinking they are very similar and hard to distinguish should get out of a cave and head straight to Specsavers or whatever nearest optician.
Utterly ridiculous, but unsurprising. Apples home turf, in a country struggling with jobs and future prospects, and a jury that is going to struggle not to be biased seeing as Apples HQ was only a dozen ro so miles from the Court.
Consumers are the real ones that will suffer here!
Galaxy S3 will not be removed from the market, will it?
as said above a ridiculous court case and ridiculous damages...Apple is harming itself more in the long run with each and every case it brings to court
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
I've been on the verge of saying this for a while now, bit I think I'm finally ready to say:
I hate Apple.
Trouble is, the judgements are in the large -technically- correct. If you have as system with patents that stupid and vague, yeah Samsung violated them. Morally and financially however, allowing these 800 pound spoiled gorilla patent trolls to continue like this is a disaster for consumer electronics/computing.
No, it's seen as too new to be included (despite Apple wanting it included). Frankly I've been avoiding Apple products for a very long time and this type of behaviour simply re-enforces that view. The biggest problem as wasabi says are the idiots that are handing out these stupidly broad patents like confetti (Apple want to patent the circle? yeah why not, gotta protect our boys from those commi' lovin' Koor-eeans!).
Samsung should really now stop supplying Apple with cpu's....yeah they'd get sued again but Apple would be stuffed...wonder how much it would cost Apple with no products for a month or 2!
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
The real case here is going to be Apple Vs. Google.
A lot of the software features that Apple is trying to sue Samsung for, are in the android system by default.
And I've seen click-to-zoom interfaces on tons of applications way before iPhone etc. Even my Palm TX behaves that way in some cases. Why is no-one accepting prior art when it was clearly there? These are “tap to zoom” and the “bounce back response” at the ends of scroll lists. (However I remember designing Flash interfaces for websites that had this feature in year 2001, so “bounce back” is quite an “old” interface feature)
Thank god common sense prevailed, android ripped off ios beyond belief and its not right that samsung should profit from a bit of copy and paste...
Windows phone is significantly different from ios, and i quite like it, ios is unique and original, android is just a blatent copy that stole apples ideas, coppied the best bits, then bolted new bits on...if microsoft can make something comepletely different with windows phone, why cant samsung ,....they had an os before android ...why not develop that? Why steal ...for that matter htc, motorola etc are just as equally to blame as google, apple should go after google next and just ban android from existance until they can come up with something original
Im probably wrong but don't the 'winnings' get taxed? If so then of course it would be even more onesided, the jury were from the local area which is Apple town and letting Apple win makes USA richer!
I feel for samsung I really do, let down by a stupid silly patent system and got burned by following it.
@ionicle Are you serious? Android a rip off of iOS? Similar development times, they all do bits here and there so you may as well say Apple copied/stole from Microsoft as their Windows Mobile had an app drawer (a full screen start menu like MUI now ) and they had icons in grids, brilliant.... then theres notifications which Apple copied.
I do love how people say WP is massively different, true it is fairly different but at the same time its not, look at it like this, you have 'tiles' we normally call them icons! The larger tiles/icons are active widgets (like Androids home screen widgets) it has an app drawer like everyone else. If you dumb it down enough then everything is a copy, Apple want to stop people who are making touchscreen phones with a candybar shape with an app launcher, its ridiculous.
