Re: Going from N95 To HTC Tytn II (Kaiser)

like you i have been reading it up on xda forums too. i was going to attempt to try it tonight but abit afraid to do so :O even though i have succesfuly flashed an N95 and a psp before but this is a whole different device!

From what i have gathered so far to flash the rom i need to unlock the cid and hard spl. after i have done that its ready to flash apparently. what i dont understand is hardspl and cid unlocking the same thing? i see various threads merging the same thing

Re: Going from N95 To HTC Tytn II (Kaiser)

My understanding is that hardspl removes the CID lock, but the phone still remains locked to the vendors sim.

Basically follow the instructions to install hardspl.
HTC Kaiser Hard-SPL v1 - CID Unlock & Flash any ROM to your device (4 free) - xda-developers
when you are finished the phone will behave exactly as before you started, but when you want to you can install a custom rom. Once hardspl in installed you cna chop and change roms. I have tried 3 roms on my kaiser, but you only have to instal hardspl the first time.

Had this HTC phone since launch, found a few probs! worst one is the keyboard, initially very very good, but now the "a" button sticks and dosn't respond 60% of the time. which is a little inconvinient, to say the least!

Also HardSPL means if you mess up a flash and brick your phone, you can re-flash. :-) Thankfully the flashing tools are pretty good and I've not had any issues at all.

You can find pretty much anything you need here:

    ..:: Dutty's Beta Area ::..

Scroll down to the downloads area.

4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download kaiser-HardSPLv1.zip

    - hardspl

4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download KAIS_Radio_Only_1.64.08.21_CustomRUU.zip

    - windows mobile 6.1 radio (1.64.08.21)

4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download Duttys_Official_WM6.1_Release.zip

    - dutty's windows mobile 6.1 release

If you install them in that order you shouldn't have any issues. Remember to backup anything you need beforehand. And upon reflashing a new radio / rom - perform a hard reset on first boot. To do this, when it says tap the screen to set up the stylus, instead hold down both the softkeys (under the screen), and hold the stylus in the reset hole at the bottom for about 5 seconds. It will prompt to reset, say yes, restart, and set things up.

A wm 6.1 radio wont work with a 6.1 rom, and vice versa. But 6.1 has threaded messaging

Re: Going from N95 To HTC Tytn II (Kaiser)

I got my kaiser yesterday and finished installing dutty's latest about half an hour ago. Original software was so sluggish. Dutty's is a big improvement.

Now looking for goodies I can put on my phone. Starting with an internet radio streaming prog if I can find one.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

Re: Going from N95 To HTC Tytn II (Kaiser)

it all depends on what you want from your device.

The Dutty ROMs tend to be the most feature rich and the slickest.

There are others that go for pure performance and strip WinMob down o the bare minimum, letting you add whatever you want on top. With some of the new finger friendly UIs appearing (like PointUI) I think these stripped down ROMs could be very usefull. What would be the point in installing all the HTC touch software if you are going to use PointUI and PocketCM? (for example).

Re: Going from N95 To HTC Tytn II (Kaiser)

I would like to thank the people here for guiding me into flashing my first ever cooked rom. i have succesfuly flashed to a dutty rom 6.1 along with the radio succesfuly and it was a piece of cake! only thing thats difficult about flashing your phone is the courage and confidence to do but i can tell you that after you done it once, all that fear you had is gone.

i can see a dramatic improvement on my phone. apps load quicker and its not sluggish anymore! im begining to install some programs on it and this is agubably the best phone i have ever had by a mile. im on a 18 month contract now and i feel that this phone can carry me through that with ease has i dont see anything from the enar distance future that will totaly blow this away.

Yes we have that new sony ericson phone coming out but besides that vga screen, what else does it have that will blow away a tytn2? if it has double the battery life, faster cpu and more RAM then we might have a worth replacement.

i most probably upgrade my ROM once a month to keep up with the latest and greates custom ROM's out there

The new radios make the camera lovely to use. I have no idea why the radio rom affects the camera but hey, it makes it work so I'm happy

Re: Going from N95 To HTC Tytn II (Kaiser)

As far as I can tell, the "radio ROM" is really like the firmware, where as the main ROM is the OS and software that sits on top. Obviously there are camera functions that appear to apps as hardware functions, but are really software contained in the firmware (or Radio ROM).

I'm not positive that is right, but it sounds good doesn't it?

Can't find the exact link on XDA forum but I remember reading that a radio rom is the driver set which talks to the hardware radio parts ie phone call hardware and 3g, gps etc. anything that lets the phone connect with the outside world.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.
