    Re: iPhone 3GS S

I mean the 3GS is either the most advanced phone or the overhyped must have gadget...either way you end up paying more for it....
There are plenty of HTC and Samsung iphone clones available for free on reasonable contracts of £25....

Mind you I did find the PAYG prices of the iphone 3GS very high, obviously trying to cash in on the uncreditworthy (age or else) with the cash

Don't you have to pay £15 per month extra for this ability with O2? Caused a massive ruckus on a couple of other forums I go to.

I can't see myself buying an 3GS. Purely because it's overpriced. You are paying for brand, not quality/features.

AnandTech did a nice review comparing the new Pre to the 3GS (don't quote me on that, I think it was the Pre).

    Re: iPhone 3GS S

well ive gone out and bought one... after messing about in the shop its instantly and noticeably smoother and more refined than my 2g model+os3 - only thing i dont like is the colour temparature on the screen is much warmer which makes the whites look more yellowy

if you think about the competition:
    iphone 3gs on payg: 440quid (530 for the 32gb)
    Nokia N97 sim-free: 499quid
    Samsung OminaHD: 599quid

im sold because of the better exchange intergration with OS3 (ability to sync multiple folders mainly and being able to have separate calendars) - this means i can effectively consolidate my personal and work phone into one.

Im on PayAsYou go and I top up £10 a month max (+300 free texts) which is more than enough.

By the way, for anyone that has it or is going to get it, charging £15 for using your included unlimited data connection is Q.Q:

Am I right in thinking the iPhone is actually £50 a month if you want to have 3Gb of data usage?

Also are we going to get the cheaper iPhone 3G 8Gb for $99 like the US?

The 3G(s) is actually $199 in the USA, surprised people are buying it at £185.

    Re: iPhone 3GS S

Pre-ordered a 32GB 3GS through mobiles.co.uk and used quidco so hopefully get £60 off the ~£275 + 35/month. I'm upgrading from an old Vario II which is a brick from ancient Egypt in comparison to this.

Overall I'm very happy with it - WiFi and 3G rates seem good, touchscreen is nice and responsive, no problem with software keyboard, Safari is nice too. Already filled half of it... when's the 64GB version out?!

    Re: iPhone 3GS S

Clearly these devices are restricted to people on high salaries etc, sigh.
Even if we get a $99 iPhone, there's still a £50 a month fee to pay (3Gb of data is £15 extra i think).
Maybe years down the line there will be an iPhone for 'the masses'.

Wow - the features look great - pity I'm tied up in another contract! I've always found it impossible to type on the iPhone though...

Paid £169 for the first iPhone when they cleared out for the 3G ones. Using it with a contract I already have. It was an impulse buy, and turned out to be far better than I anticipated (there are some very useful applications for my use).

Fair point and it's a complaint I've made before. Thing is, I had a 1GB micro SD card in my last phone, and never bothered to upgrade it! To me, being able to use the device is more important than the storage space. By the time 64GB micro SD cards are available to upgrade a dodgy windows mobile 7 phone, I'll be upgrading to a 2GHz quad-core phone that can remote control my sharks with frakin' lasers...

Also, unlike most of the HTCs, this phone has... a normal headphone socket.
