Taking a contract number from one contract sim to another contract sim...

    Hey folks,

I know a few of you are in the know about this stuff and it probably has been brought up before, but I thought I'd start a new thread to get the best clarification I can on this subject.

    So, the story is,

I have two contracts (I took one out a few month ago to get a new phone) now the main contract I was using is set to expire or probably already has, I am not sure if the date was the 17th or if it's at the end of the month.

Now that the contract is due to end, I want to take that number and put it onto the new contract I acquired a few month ago as it is a MUCH better contract! However, I spoke to the network I am with for BOTH contract who is Vodafone and they say they cannot simply swap numbers around!

So I am led to believe that:
    - I need to get a PAYG sim card and transfer my original number to that.
    - Wait for the number to register properly with the new PAYG sim card.
    - Then swap the number from that PAYG sim car to my new-ish contract sim card.

So in theory if that's the case the new contract I acquired will then have my original number on it.

Is that right and if it is, is it possible to do?

    Thanks!

    Ok

I have been trying to do this recently and didnt get very far.

    This is how it works

The number that you want to keep needs to go to PAYG first, once this has gone to PAYG you then requested you PAC (port auth Code)

Once you have recieved this you can then port the number to you current contract,

Your provider cannot port contract to contract numbers, (unless in extreme curcumstances or you just get very lucky)

it is very important if you want no hassle to let the number you want to keep to go PAYG first, if this happens then you shouldnt have any issues.

    ...

    Hope this helps

Easy solution is when u call to cancel your contract, ask them to provide you with a vodafone sim PAYG with your number which would mean all you have to do is call the other network to port it .

It's all vodafone though, no second network.

The only problem in that chain of events is that I don't know whether you can transfer a phone number on to a contract that is already active.

So you might ring up vodafone with your PAC code and they'll say fine, we'll transfer the number, but only to a new contract - not an existing one.

Seeing as it's the last step, it's probably worth ringing them before you get started.

You can get them to convert the cancelled Contract sim into a PAYG, and then port the numbers.

Re: Taking a contract number from one contract sim to another contract sim...

You could just phone them up and explain exactly how you could get the number transferred, and ask them whether they really want to put you through the hassle and lose a customer at the end of the contract, or just click on their computer and sort it out for you - it should be a pretty simple choice.
