I don't think I could use another phone that didn't have a touchscreen. It can be a bit fiddly to get used to, but after a while you wonder how you lived without it. My girlfriend hates them with a passion, she can't use mine at all and ends up getting annoyed and handing it back to me. Next phone will have to be touchscreen and most definitely android again, so it's looking like the bravo.

I keep trying to control my iPod classic through the screen. I have also been known to do the same with other peoples phones that are not touch screen, especially if they have quite a large screen (like my mums Nokia E series)

Re: Google Nexus One - My First Smartphone

My T-mobile sim arrived. Excellent. So both phones up and running now. I go turn on bluetooth on both devices, tryand send a contact over and...the Nexus One refuses to accept...i don't even get the option. It says nothing. My pool old C905 is trying it's hardest but alas it is failing.

I probably am missing something obvious, but I'm gonna keep trying!

    EDIT
Also, EDGE/2G (whatever you want to call it) internetz is really slooooow.

    EDIT
Messing around with the apps now and it is SOOO much fun! Tryng to find a nice currency app at the moment. xe.com one was nice and simple but it crashed! Also tried out the satnav thing...doesn't look like you get voices but it shows you where you are and the route you got to take (I think). Not been on the road with it yet. The GPS is freakin accurate...you're supposed to be outside with a view of the sky, for GPS to work and it homed in on my (rented) house as to where I am and said "accurate to 20m"...and this was indoors. scary.

Re: Google Nexus One - My First Smartphone

Another update on the day-to-day living with the Nexus One.

Since getting the T-Mobile sim (yesterday), I've left the GPS on and auto-sync on. the battery was last charged on the night of the 26th about 10pm or so. Now, at 6:46 pm it's got around 21% (or so it says). Still lasting a decent length of time. Spent today on facebook and browsing my personal emails (whilst at work), added someone to facebook via 2G...how slow was that. I've also got the news/weather app on and it's refreshing every hour too. Quite a handy built-in app.

I was going to test the satnav app but I woke up late so didn't have time to set up the phone before leaving for work.

I do like this phone; it's very convenient for me.

There is a car/maintenance/fuel app that i am interested in (I got to find it again) but it sounds/looks interesting, working out your fuel useage, keeping tabs on servicing your car, bits and bobs. etc.

Anything people want me to test?

Are you using a Facebook App or the web interface?

You could try m.facebook.com for their mobile site, touch.facbook.com for a touch friendly mobile site or lite.facebook.com for a stripped back desktop interface. I've used them all at various times on various devices for various reasons

I'm using both the facebook app and m.facebook/touch.facebook.

2G/EDGE is just quite slow...or relative to what I am used to.

Re: Google Nexus One - My First Smartphone

So I'm finally getting round to testing 3G and Bluetooth.

3G - SUCKS. I have no idea why it drops in and out of 3G. I left the phone on a table and watched it pick up and lose 3G whilst doing...nothing. It was a pretty good signal too so it isn't like it was struggling for reception. It was even more infuriating when I tried using it to web browse on the go. As far as I can find out on the net, it is a software issue as when you lock it to just 3G it's all ok but to lock it requires you to tap in a code. Also if I lock it to 3G I would be screwed as there is no 3G where I live or work.

Bluetooth: Paired and conencted with the car very easily. Still don't know how to stream music through the Bluetooth system though...not had a phone call through yet so not sure how good/bad it is...though I didn't really plan that far when I decided to go for a hours drive to nowhere. All I wanted to do was hook it up, play music via phone and drive.

Re: Google Nexus One - My First Smartphone

Have a search about, there has been reports of 3G issues with the device. There has been some wrangling with Google, HTC and the networks as to who is at fault and providing the fix I think.

Re: Google Nexus One - My First Smartphone

Yep, well aware of 3G issues, mostly from US residents from what I have read. It's not a huge deal with me, I struggle to get a (2G) signal at times on both Vodafone and T-Mobile.

With regards to bluetooth: I'm not too sure if there is some setting I need for the phone or the car or cycle through something so it plays music through the car stereo and not the phone. The Bluetooth manual for the car only speaks of pairing the devices and then how to add your address book in etc. but from what I read it supports streaming music too from a compatable bluetooth device. I should have jumped on the bluetooth wagon earlier and learnt all this rather than fumble along like an idiot.

Re: Google Nexus One - My First Smartphone

OK mental note: Do your research FIRST!

The car stereo doesn't support AD2P (I think is the protocol) which means I can't bluetooth stream music. days of effort fiddling and it just turns out the radio doesn't support it. Hahaha.

I successfully mullered the battery yesterday Didn't last a day and a half as I was checking the bbc news website constantly (following F1 testing) through the day. Charged it up last night, mullered it in a day today It did a nice chunk of web browsing (most of the day on and off), a CRAP load of texting (well relative for me anyhow), and a good few hours of music play back. Starting to see if you keep abusing the phone it'll drain the battery but that is to be expected.

Pretty sure web browsing on 2G is eating lots of battery time up.

As for apps, not got any yet. Hopefully this weekend I can give the inbuilt satnav/Car Home app a go and see how it deals with me travelling 180 odd miles each way.

Yes the data cxonnection will use a bit more battery as it is in constant contact with the network (in the same way as making a voice call), and the processor will be running a bit harder as well. But I would put money on it being the screen that is sucking the most power.

I almost killed the battery on my Touch Diamond 2 a few months dake because I was insanely bored and started playing Teeter (a ball rolling/balancing game that uses the tilt sensor). A normal day of heavy use was fine, but half an hour with the screen on playing that really dropped the charge.

Thumbs up Re: Google Nexus One - My First Smartphone

Google have released an OTA update for the Nexus One so it's something to be on the look out for.

New software update for Nexus One

Brings multi-touch and will hopefully fix the 3G issues

Hehe. Read that on my phone earlier on this morning. Checked to see if I got an update and that's a negative.

The screen does suck up alot of battery power and I've set it to it's lowest possible setting (which is still quite bright). It's a shame the battery died (I forgot to plug it in) which means I lost the stats but it was around 55% for the screen alone. Since then it's now at 81%.

There's a way to force the update if you want, also saves your battery as you don't need to D/L it OTA http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/02/n...hout-the-wait/

Re: Google Nexus One - My First Smartphone

heh..read up on that and knowing my ultra uber skillz...I might end up bricking the phone. I'll wait till I get it over the air. Multi-touch isn't a issue for me (having it or not having it) and the rest of the items such as google goggles is a nice bonus though you can download that for free via apps anyhow...
