    Rooting Froyo 2.2?

I am about to give this a go properly now, but I am struggling desperately with it. I got it all sorted on Windows Mobile 6.5, but android is making my head spin. I have a stock Samsung galaxy S Froyo 2.2.

I have found this, one click root tool on XDA developers:
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

But before I can use it, it is telling me I need the ADB. I found the following link on how to install it:
    http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/...ll-it-android/

Going to the website to get the Java SE Development Kit, bring up an error messages and page can't be displayed. Does anyone know where else I can get it from?
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/ja...ads/index.html

Following on from that, is it just a matter of downloading the Java SE JDK, then the ADB (Android Development kit) and then using the one click root to finish it all off?

Following on from rooting it, new ROM is it just a matter of downloading & installing them as I would have on Windows Mobile?

    Re: Rooting Froyo 2.2?

I have found a work around for the download mode through 2 resistors and a butchered USB plug. Now that I can get into download mode I am tempted to try a new ROM.

My question now is (and i have searched ) is what is the difference between download mode and recovery mode?

Download mode (volume down + home + power) is used when pushing an update from the PC (usually via ODIN for a galaxy S).

Recovery Mode (volume up + home + power) gives you a variety of options for factory reset and the like.
If you have Clockwork recovery mod you also get options for backup and to flash a new custom rom directly. Some custom ROMs also add additional options (such as enabling / disabling lagfix or other various tweaks)
