Anyone else running it?
Going to install my copy at the weekend as soon as i knock up a test server to run it on. So I was wondering if anyone has any experiences to share?
I'm on this beta/ CTP build too....waiting for a machine I bought on ebay to arrive before I can install it!
Have attempted to install it already to a virtual machine, but that failed as I only spec'ed the VM with 256MB ram....Home server needs a minimum of 512 or it won't install!!
I'm running it at home, haven't updated to the latest version yet - I'm about 120miles away from it.
Its been running fine on an Athlon 2000+ 512mb RAM, 80gb Hard Disk. Haven't had time to investigate the media streaming bits, (that's all done by my WinXP Pro box) but the data backup bits are quite handy.
Not really impressive, I was hoping it would have some sort of software RAID parity at least.
Isnt the retail Longhorn Server going to be x64 only in part of Microsofts push to get all servers over to 64 bit?
I remember reading that somewhere at the launch of Exchange 2007, which is also x64 only.
Anyone know what the retail name for Longhorn server will be yet? I have a feeling it will be Windows 2007 Server but.........
Actually, my experience of XP x64 is that the gfx card drivers are ok - it's the webcams, graphics tablets, printers, digital cameras etc that you can't always get drivers for...
That's nice, but the point here the only drivers that matter (disk controllers, network interface, etc) are strongly supported, where general desktop devices aren't as strongly supported compared to 32bit NT. Of course this is where Linux strongly excels anyway (both serving and arch portability) but that's neither here nor there.
It will be Centro....just that it won't be around for about a year after the longhorn server product comes out. This is always the case with SBS products...happened with SBS2003.....and is happening with SBS2007. From my time at the Technet roadshow in Glasgow a couple of months ago it is the ISA component of the product that is causing the delays.....
Arent they developing a new version of Server 200x for Medium sized enterprises? I read it was essentially SBS but starting with 25 and support for upto 400 client licenses.
I fancy a play with the Longhorn Server Beta 3 but dont think I have the time at the moment.

i have been playing with it for a couple of days. finally gots me a invite. and the most immediatly useful feature is the backup feature. although user file area looks to be useful from a security perspective
Whats so special about this then?
Got a spare box with C2D 6400, 2Gb RAM in it which could be used as a home server....
