I'm livin' on the razor's edge me...
It's ever so frightening.
Actually, i can't say i've noticed any difference so far!
Think it's fair to say that if you don't get the evaluation watermark on the desktop that the RC and refreshes had, you've got the RTM one. Not sure it'll be final though, as I doubt the supposed driver issues are standard 3rd party ones, but the drivers that are bundled with Windows (and updated in SP1 presumably). I expect what ends up officially pushed down through Windows Update will have the same build number, but I doubt it's going to be exactly the same.
The x64 SP1 redist package was posted in various places, and I've nabbed that, as I should be doing an install next week, and fully expect the 'current' RTM to be fine, just as the RCs were for me.
If it's the final release, but it's still not released for a while yet, then why is it 'done', but not officially released yet?
Why don't MS release it when it's final (like it is now apparently)?
There are issues with some drivers, they're pulling together a way to detect machines with those driver and not automatically deploy to them.
Just one more question... do you still get the Evaluation Copy, Build .... in the bottom right corner of the desktop after doing this?
I can't decide whether to do this now or just wait until MS release it as a proper auto update...
Yeah, this was mentioned on Paul THurott's Windows Supersite... http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...readyornot.asp
Interestingly I ran the batch file and... now can't use Windows Update. Time to restore yesterday's image, methinks!
And yes, yes it's a legit Ultimate x64 OEM install, but I get error 80072F8F, which suggests an issue with the PC's time (which is set via NTP to synch with uk.pool.ntp.org).
I'll hang tight for the proper release then...
I've a sneaking suspicion it may well be down to Kaspersky being a bit snotty regards the registry changes, but I didn't have time to look into it too much. I'll take a look later today, possibly just manually edit the registry.
Tried disabling proactive defense and it did the same. As I say, I've no problem with a spot of manual reghackery when I get home tonight.
I had tried the prev beta versions so I knew there would be no driver probs with my sys as it worked fine with prev versions. I've found SP1 faster than before(especially with IE7 as it used to be really slow and occasionally freeze if I had more than 2 or 3 pages open on same window).
So far so good.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.
Everything went smoothly here, long, but smoothly. Everything matches up. I ended up doing a new Vostro business laptop which had no problems what so ever, and it made no difference apart from marginally slowing down shut down time and a longer login. I did a problematic Gateway Home Premium laptop and it's perked up considerably, makes it actually usable. Job's a good'un going off that little exercise.
