Indeed Zak, one would assume so, but with Avira it seems to be a tad picky.
Didn't have this problem with AVG. Apologies to Amitava83 for slightly hijacking this thread.

I reccomend f-secure or kaspersky.
f-secure doesnt ask any hard to answer questions and the detection rate is always top.
Kaspersky shouldnt ask any hard to answer questions if you use automatic mode.
i stopped using f-secure at version 2007 since it slowed down my old computer alot. but the current version and the version which is in beta atm is very light on resourses.
FYI if you sent a malware sample or a false possitive to Kaspersky you are likely to get a reply from a human in less than an hour explaining the situation such as yes it is an fp or yes that is malware and it will be detected as blah blah and will be included in the next update.
btwif you decide to use kaspersky use kaspersky 2009 for now. 2010 is still a bit rough atm. the bugs are been fixed but will take awhile.

I would go for Kaspersky too especially at the prices Scan charge for it:

Also Nod32 is pretty decent too. If you want to go for a free antivirus Avast is also worth a mention.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention Kaspersky's excellent customer support!
My vote is for NOD32.
Comodo, comes bundled with a firewall too if you don't trust the microsoft one, ideal for notebooks and netbooks
I have 3 PCs at home and all are on Eset Smart Security ver.4 (NOD antivirus + firewall). All run like a dream, no infections, low on resources.
