If you're running any version of nero greater than 5.5 then nero's wave editor will allow you to convert wma's to mp3. however if youre not running any version of nero then id look around for Musicmatch Jukebox v7.1. although essentially the later is a music player with similar properties to WMP9, MJ 7.1 does have its own converter contained so its worth a shot on it.
yeah i have nero 6... so where abouts do i do this? sorry i'm a noob!

not to worry mate. going in the mix with nero 6 is easy. for me i go into Start Menu, All Programs, Ahead Nero 6 (renamed the group), then Nero 6 Ultra Edition, then Nero Wave Editor. then i open the music file i wanna convert to mp3. once its opened i then go file, save as and make sure the type of file i save it as is an mp3. hope that helps

cheers mate. completely brand new to the forums but ill soon find a home here
yep works fine... thanks mate!
no probs mate. ive tested it out before with both nero 6 and nero 5.5 and its easy to use
funny cos ive been transcoding from wma to 192kbps mp3 and not noticed any change in the audio quality. i wonder why? could you help us directhex?
or how about a simple analogy. a photocopy of a photocopy is lower quality than a photocopy of an original.
if you have a pure wav soundform, then convert it to 128k wma, you've lost a lot of data which the wma standard decrees as useless. to convert it to another format. that 128k mp3 is first turned back into a full wav (with all the missing data still missing), then into a new format, which throws away DIFFERENT information, in ADDITION tyo what was already lost in the first wma rip. detail is lost from a file which already lacks detail.
note that this effect occurs the more you change the audio. for example, ripping a CD at 320k mp3, 48KHz will give a lower quality but larger filesize than the same rip at 320k 44.1KHz, since the CD is originally 44.1KHz (and it's just guessing & inventing to assume what the 48KHz version might sound like). going from 96Kbit MP3 to 320k MP3 will again loose quality, since you lost information the first time around and you're going to lose it again, even though the file size is ballooning
