Just go MSE if you want truly 0% no hassle.
Like snootyjim said, if you have MSSE (and auto update on), Firewall + router Firewall, you should be fine as long as you dont click silly links.

Thanks, shall look into MSSE... Although for the time being Mcaffee still seems to be working despite me not being connected with O2, probably got a years subscription on it or something so I'll keep using that until it tells me it has expired.
Firewall on the netgear media hub looks reasonable, NAT and SPI.

Avast is a good free av.
I have no experiance with MSSE but it sounds to be alot better now than when i first looked into using it.
MSSE version 2 was released yesterday and seems to be slightly quicker, but maybe that was because I had the option to create shadow copies turned off while I was testing it.
With MSSE, one thing I can suggest is changing the recommended actions for medium & low alerts to "quarantine" - if you run, for example, Nirsoft's Protected Storage PassView, then by default MSSE allows it to run but pops up a message saying you might not want it. Changing the default setting for this level of threat to "quarantine" does actually stop PSPV from running. The eicar test file is rated "high", so that is stopped from opening by default.
Note that Microsoft's Forefront 2010 client appears to be exactly the same application as MSSE version 2. I don't know if there are differences in effectiveness or signature release timescales etc.
i was just looking for a anti virus, simluar to other i find avg to much of a Hog of my system, gonna give the MSE a try... quite shocked that its popular must be good!
My own choice is for Avira
I wouldn't touch AVG with a mile long barge pole ! Have found from past experience it's very much a case of hit or miss, and it tends to miss, lots !
Well yesterday i had a gander at a PC for someone has i had noticed they where having issues with it.
Turns out AVG Free 2011 for what ever reason was naffed but it didn't allow you to take it off, it failed each time, bit of googling and i found the stand alone remover for it and bobs ya mother it's now gone from the system never to return - 5 mins later a copy of MSE installed (would have put Avira on but wanted to give MSE a try seen has it won't install on XP 64)
Took 2 odd hrs to do a full system scan, seems light weight enough and not ran into any issues yet with it.
