    To quote the problem dude
sorry, i don't want to cheat my way through doing this i want to learn how to do it the hard way so that i know how to do it, then yes maybe i will cheat and use the quick way but i would like to know how to set it up manually at least first...ive tried re-installing about 5 times now and it still doesn't work...same error, could this be something to do with winxp sp2?
It is NOT a cheat. Seriously. I have worked with mysql for years. Yet today, I had a WHOLE new error on an install which took me 2 hours of looking to fix. The service as seen in control panel/administrative tools/services had a link to an incorrect *-nt.exe. I had to hack the registry entry to point it in the correct place. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THE HELL THIS HAPPENED.

By using apache2 triad you would be minimising the things that can go wrong in the integration. AND helping people like myself, who installed it all today, to help you with your error. <- I think we are all trying to get your install to an error that we have personally encountered. OR to guess at a fix.

The installer will write over the files and registry entries that are bust - hopefully. From memory I think that just downloading mysql... going to /bin directory and clicking on mysql*-nt.exe. waiting a second or two. Then clicking on mysql.exe IS the install of mysql.

I think a format is extreme... but I *really* thought about it with my own problem today . Seriously. I can recommend my advice in my previous post - bit egotistical I know.

Delete everything using the uninstallers. Search your registry for "mysql" entries, deleting them all. Reboot... then try Apache 2 triad installer.

    again. best of luck

it is cheating, its cheating your way around it, i would like to do it properly, yes maybe in future when i need to do this type of thing faster, but i want to learn how to do it my self, getting something to do it all automaticly for me IS CHEATING, and i like to do things properly. thanks

also.. A good debug method is.

Ctrl + Alt + Del. then looking at the task manager.

Sort processes alphabetically. Then look for anything *mysql* if there isn't anything. Then the mysql server isn't running. This helps when there is hidden "no auhtorisation" problems. But this isn't sounding like your reported error.

If "cheating" is getting it to work, without wasting days on end, then the entire industry cheats.

I understand that you want to solve your problem, but really, when it comes down to it, if a solution works, is trusted and saves you time, use it!

damn it. it isn't a cheat. It is the way things are done

It is the fall back for when things DO go wrong. the only way to actually standardise things to a point where we might be able to solve things naturally
