    Simple networking

    Hi,

I have just bought and set-up my new D-link G604T router.
I have 2 computers in the house. My main one is already set-up via an ethernet cable (XP Pro). What is the best way to set-up the other computer (Win98) via an ethernet cable to have an internet connection? I don't want the 2 computers to see each other. The computer has a 10/100 networking card and can be connected to the router.

Plug them both into the router and just disable/do not turn on file and printer sharing. I believe by default they will not be able to share anything and I dont think they will see each other.

By the way I have this router as well, its fantastic but I advise you to statically assign an IP address for each PC otherwise after a while internet will stop working. I have no idea why this happends, must be a router problem.

    Hope this helped

control panel -> network connections ->right click the connection you want (eg.Local are connection) -> select internetProtocol (TCP/IP) -> properties
-> "Use following ip address" and enter the static ip you want there

The standard windows assigned ip address are:
    192.168.0.1
    192.168.0.2
    upto 192.168.255.255
There are other ranges you can use as well. Subnet mask should be entered automagically, but if not enter 255.255.0.0 and default gateway is the ip of the router/external connection.

edit: Check the Connectivity forum mate http://forums.hexus.net/forumdisplay...sprune=30&f=29 - there should be useful info in the stickies there for ya mate

Actually I recently bought a G520+ from them and that was faulty. The people at broadbandbuyer.co.uk said 'Product faulty, has high ping request whilst performing a constant ping to the internet. 50% loss of packets'. So maybe it is a Dlink thing - or we are just unlucky!

But I do have the G604T and this is fantastic.
