    outlook2003 signature/text format issue

    hello all,

I've been looking at a problem on my girlfriends laptop today, which seems unusual.

she has created a Rich Text signiture which she has set for use with "new messages" and "replies and forwards" She has also set the default mail format as Rich text.

When she opens a new mail, the signature is there, no problem, and the format is rich text.

If she sends out a mail, then gets a response and replies to it, the signiture is a different one and the format is html.

Is this because of the way the message has been sent back to her (shouldn't effect the signature though)

Is anyone up on this sort of thing could offer some tips.

I'll get screen shots if needs be.

    thanks

Is the signiture very different, or has outlook just converted it to html (possible badly?)

With our outlook 2003 at work, when you reply it doesn't add a signiture, so in the context you mention above I assume you mean the signiture, as it has been sent back to you, looks different?

My Guess is that outlook's converting the sig to html, because that's supported by email readers. I'd re-make the sig in html so that you're happy with it, then it shouldn't change.
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.

    a good comment stytagm,

I'm not %100 convinced your right as looking at the signiture it converts/displays it as an "old version" of the signiture thats not currently on the system.

You could be right though, but the signiture is quite different, in that the bottom line, is at the top line ?

Also that doesn't explain why when she clicks "reply" it replys in html in stead of rich text format.

shouldn't be using rich text regardless - causes problems on other mail systems.
you may find that the conversion from rtf to html (which should happen automatically when mail is sent outside your organisation) is using an old html signature of the same name as the rtf signature.

I'd just go html which is fine, does the job - there's no benefit in using rich text. it just causes nightmares. case in point - a client decided she'd rather not install outlook 2003 at home. most of the office desktops hadn't been upgraded - and she was moaning that she couldn't read any e-mail from her home machine, but it was no problem in the office
