    I guess I won't get it working.

    So I have now decided to wait for C&C3 Tiberium Wars that is compatible with Vista-32bit.
    Over on bit-tech someone suggested the following for me but it didn't work. But it might help?

    Right click generals.exe (not the shortcut)

    under compatibility, make it look like this:

    Also try right clicking and 'run as administrator' to see if that makes any difference. I couldn't get past the splash no matter what though

    I tried that method and it didn't help.

    I can see people saying enough is enough From EA. EA drop support for a game as soon as the money train has passed. I will never pay for an EA title ever again. I will just find a differant way.

    I hope some one with skills will have a look at the patch and get it working with vista.

    I have a 100% working solution for C&C Zero Hour not working in Windows Vista.
    When you first run Zero Hour, folder "Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data" is generated at users Documents.
    All you have to do is to empty that folder (some chrash logs) and copy Options.ini (if you have backup from XP) to that folder.
    If you need one i can upload it... just say where.
    Have tried all solutions posted earlier, none worked. This has been tested on Win Vista 32bit, should work on 64bit to.

    P.S.: I have joined this forum just to share working solution in search for one (by google). Have a nice Zero Hour time in VISTA!

    Here is original Options.ini entries for Zero Hour:

    AntiAliasing =
    DrawScrollAnchor =
    GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0
    Gamma = 50
    IPAddress = 0.0.0.0
    IdealStaticGameLOD = High
    LanguageFilter = false
    MoveScrollAnchor =
    MusicVolume = 55
    Resolution = 800 600
    Retaliation = yes
    SFX3DVolume = 79
    SFXVolume = 71
    ScrollFactor = 50
    SendDelay = no
    StaticGameLOD = Low
    UseAlternateMouse = no
    UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
    VoiceVolume = 70

    Copy all to new text file in notepad save as Options.txt and change .txt to .ini.
    This is default setup.ini for C&C Zero Hour, so you can adjust your own settings later in options menu.
    Or edit it directly in ini file...

    P.S.: If you own ATI card set AntiAliasing = 6 (maximum)
    If you own NVIDIA card set AntiAliasing = 4 (maximum)

    Yea, someone on bittech told me to copy the my documents directory from XP / working install, did so and it works like a dream. Configured for widescreen, it's great.

    Still need to change the height thingy tho.

    Arrow Big Thanks

    Thanks DJDARE

    I guess same applies for Generals?

    I'll try that tonight. I had given up but now there is a ray of hope.

    Have you guys played the demo version of C&C3 Tiberium Wars? Its not as good as I thought (compared to Generals and Zero Hour)

    Generals is a one off really, I would say more like a (good) starcraft clone with the constructors etc. - whereas c&c3 goes back to the old formula. I wouldn't be surprised if EA switch back and forth between the formats, so the sequal to c&c3 will be similar-ish to generals, and then after that another nod vs. GDI or red alert spin off.

    If they get round to it that is.

    Did you guys get this game to work online? My game always ran fine, I didn't have to do anything. But I never got it to work online. I could log on, but when i started loading the game, it never worked.

    i cant even get offline generals/zh to work with vista :/ even after creating a new options.ini file and creating the a c&c folder under the c:\users\<username> folder.

    went back to xp, though i think i'll have to go back to vista at some point for dx10 goodness, bah.

    Whell i did some testing...
    On my system even if WinXP is instaled i can't run Generals or Zero Hour... Chipset on my motherboard is Intel 965P (motherboard is Asus P5B Deluxe).
    I have another system based on Nvidia chipset (Asus A8N-E, AMD Athlon 4000+ SanDiego, 2GB ram, ATI X850XT PE 600/600)
    and generals and Zero Hour are working without any problems (no need for any compatibility settings or run as administrator).
    Friend of mine has SiS chipset on his motherboard an Generals & Zero Hour are working too, but he has to set Windows XP SP2 compatibility...
    All sistems where tested with Vista 32bit.

    I will try to switch graphich cards on my two systems (Nvidia 8800GTS, ATI X850XT PE) and post results...

    I'm at work at the moment but i think it should look something like that:
    For Generals:
    C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data\Options.ini

    For Zero Hour:
    C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data\Options.ini
