    Rowing Machines anyone ?

Now my drug withdrawal is going so well, it's probably about time I started some gentle exercises and get my aerobic system back to it's former glory (that was in 1985 !)

I used to do a lot of climbing, fell running, squash and gym work, with the rowers being my all round favourites.

Anyone using a modern air rower ? What's a good low cost starter machine these days ? Anyone selling one ??

    Ta
    Cheers, David

I think its generally accepted that the concept 2 ones are the best (you see them in lterally every gym, & also seen olympic team training on them) Is there any reason you cant join the gym? Local concil one is potentially very good, and is liekly to cost you somewhere around 30/month

I would have said Concept 2 as well.
Maybe get along to a big sports shop and try demo machines out?
I got told off by my physio last week for using a rowing machine - she explained how it was the worst gym machine for my bulging disc problem.

Have you rejected the idea of getting an elliptical cross trainer? Low impact, back friendly, quietish, smaller footprint, good clothes horse and a lot cheaper than a rower - and should be easy to take the charity shop/dump a few months later.

Trouble is I cannot stand for any length of time, so anything that isn't sitting down exercising is a problem. I'm off to the shops today to have a look.

If you cant stand can you use your legs as much as required for a rower? Have you considered a handbike? (Either stationary or for the road)

It's my back rather than legs which give me trouble. If I keep it straight I reckon rowing might be OK. Didn't get to the shops, it rained
