this kind of crap pisses me off big time

even in boxing this has been a great year for boxing - David Haye is the undisputed Cruiserweight champion, Joe Calzaghe is the undisputed Super Middleweight champion, Junior Witter and Gavin Rees hold major alphabet titles in the light welterweight division and Ricky Hatton is the best in the world in the lightwelter division and smashed up a legend in Castillo and gave mayweather a hard fight. Plus we got 1 gold and 2 bronzes at the world amateur boxing championships (a HUGE achievement).

In football we had 3 out of the 4 teams in the semis of the Champions League, yes the national team had a crap year but we cant have everything

In Rugby Union we came second in the world cup - a great achievement in comparison to the expectations, and Wasps won the Heineken cup. In league we world a test series against New Zealand and St Helens won the world club challenge.

Plus in a multitude of other sports. Not bad for a nation of 60 million, we compete in a wide range of sports at a high level. Stop being so bloody negative.

And Hatton fought a good fight but he is not a welterweight, he is a 140lb fighter. I hope he doesnt go up even higher to fight Oscar De La Hoya.

I agree made us look less classy... We do need to act better, But only the british fans are brave enough to disrespect a country during the national anthem.

I think Mayweather is a slightly better boxer... but I don't think it was a fair fight. Hatton is a brawler, and he got in close in the first round and really gave it to him. He hit him several times in the first round alone, made him stagger once, and you could see an expression of shock/horror on Mayweather's face in the early stages. But the whole thing was ruined by the ref who kept stopping it and splitting them up, and it ruined Hatton's flow.

Then Mayweather spends the rest of the fight bending down below the belt line, which is just wrong and against the rules... It's blatant cheating. His "unorthodox" defence by standing sideways and using his forearms and stuff is one thing, and technically ok, but ducking down that low just isn't.

And then Mayweather turns his back AND ducks down low, and hatton throws a punch which doesn't even land, and yet the ref deducts a point. I think that pushed Hatton to try too hard to knock him out, rather than sticking to his plan.

It was a good fight, and I do think Mayweather is a better boxer, but I think on another day (and with a different ref...) Hatton would have knocked him out in the first couple of rounds.

As for Amir Khan, he is a monster now! He still has that same super fast speed, but he is filling out and bulking up and looked a lot stronger. I'm looking forward to seeing him do really well.
Everything you said, I completely agree with.

I bought it on Sky Box Office HD and I was quite miffed why all 3 judges were american and also the ref was. Surely that's not fair? As my sister's boyfriend said just before the bell rang to start to fight, they should have had different nationality judges & ref.

And I didn't agree with the boo'ing during the American national anthem. That's just not on.

    Re: Hatton-Mayweather.

Don't usually watch boxing... but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about... Why does the ref interrupt every 5 seconds? Why does Mayweather always duck? and why can't Hatton hit him when he ducks? Why can't they throw punches from the clinch?

    I'm not too impressed...

Saw Amir Khan match last night and that was an awesome knockout!

no i totally get why u could see it as being over the top, its just the british fans have such a bad image compared to other fans, and i can see why now..

    Re: Hatton-Mayweather.

    Right.
    1) I'm absolutely gutted - however, I'm not a bandwagon jumper and didn't believe the hype - Mayweather IS that good and always has been that good. I expected him to take it on points, but was gutted that Hatton got knocked out - I could have handled that if he'd put Mayweather down - but he didn't.

    2) Classless football fans watching boxing disappoint me. Booing another Country's national anthem just isn't on. (Unless it's the French). I was disappointed by that - after all that slagging off we gave Mayweather for being disrespectful we go and take it up a notch.

    3) Hatton. He did very well in the first 6 and myself, and HBO had him up by one point - however - he seemed to forget about his skills, his jab and his head movement were non existant - and that's why he kept getting tagged constantly on the way in. And once again he was smothering his own work, which was a shame, I don't think I saw him work to the body for any period of time.

    4) Taxi for Cortez I think. Awful, awful refereeing - everytime they got in close he split it up - and the shock for me was Mayweather was the one who was grabbing and holding the most and every time Hatton got ticked off for it. The point deduction was silly, and made Ricky really have to chase the game - which opened him up and got him tagged in the end.

    5) Mayweather
    i) Classy
    ii) Respectful
    iii) Phenomenally gifted
iv) No heart? Give me a break

Why isn't he like this all the time? He's such a admirable winner to be fair if he dropped the "Money" Mayweather act I genuinely believe he'd be such a popular fighter. Hopefully this display has won over the doubters.

I believe he should fight Cotto next, then retire and go down in history rightfully as an all time great. Once Cotto is dealt with he has nothing left to prove (some would argue he already doesn't).

So to sum it up -
Apologies to any Americans for any disrespectful "fans".
Congratulations to Mayweather on a superb performance.
Commiserations to Hatton - You put up a great fight, but the weight and class difference proved just too much.
    Referee - Time to retire.
Hatton's fans - Unbelievable (but a little more class wouldn't go amiss )
Boxing - Rightfully back on an up.

    Re: Hatton-Mayweather.

Mayweather was just too good a fighter for Ricky. It was gutting to see Hatton hit the deck but As the fight got on you could see it coming.

IF Hatton could have stuck to the way he started and if the Ref hadnt deducted the point then It would have gone all the way and Ricky may just have nicked. As soon as the point went Ricky seemed to lose his Composure and left himself open for that punch which nearly took his jaw off.

As Bazzlad said Mayweather is immense. If he could be the way he has been since the fight all the time He would have so many more fans.

HAtton said he`ll fight again but I`m not sure who there is for him maybe de la hoya?

    De la Hoya?
You want Hatton to go up FURTHER in weight?

Not a chance. Light Welterweight only from now on.

One more tune up fight to make sure he still has it, then a career ending wembeley sell out against Junior Witter.

    Oh yes.

    Re: Hatton-Mayweather.

Gutted hatton lost, not seen it and cant bring my self to see it - after the weigh in I had convinced my self he hatton was going to do it - ahh well.
Cant belive people are saying retire after putting up (by all accounts) a decent effort against the best in the world. I think the Witter fight it a little closer now actually. I reckon Ricky will come back to the UK at LWW fight someone fringe world class probably and then go for someone decent. He could fight Rees for the WBA wich wold give him a belt and maybe haggling power with the other names in the division (not that he needs it)
Maglinaggi in the states again? Hes quick and slick but has 0 power and i can see Hatton doing a simelar thing to Cotto and bust Paulie up over 12 Or Witter back in the UK which would sell loads and he should be fav for (altho either could win). Juan Diaz could come up and that would be a fight Hatton should win. At lot of the real big name fighters like Cotto have moved up to 147 but there are still some big fights to be made at 140 cant see this being the end for the hitman just yet

    Permanently confused

no I suggest you look at the fact I replied to his comment, and I will think you will find the "Majority" as you mention of Arsenal fan will say this because they would look like fools if they said otherwise.. the question you have to ask is what if they did not have the ability would you still have the same views?

    Sorry
